Just came in here to leave feedback about craftman warranty. I recently broke by 3/8in ratchet while working on my car. The ratchet set was my dads, it is about 20 years old. Turns out it has a lifetime warranty. I called them, they didnt ask for pics, they didnt ask for any proof of purchase. About 3 days later, the new replacement ratchet was at my doorstep. Amazing customer service.

A similar 262 piece Craftsman mechanics set finished 3rd in the Project Farm Roundup. One weak point is the ratchet quality, but you could easily swap some better ratchets in down the road for an easy upgrade.

Have the Craftsman ratchets gotten better? The newer one I have will lock up if you put much pressure on it. I have avoided them ever since. I do actually have an old one that is still great.

While a nice set, don't go by the numbers as this is padded with 99 bits, 44 hex keys, and a dozen nut bits.

I think the 159 piece set which is often listed at $99 (occasionally $85) on Slickdeals is a better deal. https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMA...5014463527

Great info. Thank you. Have 1990s Craftsman ratchets whose forward/reverse lever can be positioned to neutral to fit in very tight places with 6 pt sockets.

My go to ratchets (99%) are the Harbor Freight roto heads. Stronger latching mechanism than many traditional ratchets.

This set lack some common socket sizes. The Husky promo costs more but is very complete up to 22mm. One can complement this with the Harbor Freight made in Taiwan deep impact dockets.

Is this the same or better than the Versastack?

Those Craftsman ratchets came out in 1995 and is no longer available for purchase. You can check current Craftsman ratchets. Move the lever to the middle position to see if you can rotate the square drive freely in both directions.

1. Put the socket in place.
2. Rotate the ratchet's square drive to align with the socket and insert the ratchet into the socket.
3. Move the lever to the right or left to engage the locking mechanism.

This trick works well with 6 pt sockets. Note that some aviation fasteners will require 12 pt sockets. Same with square head.

20 years ago, I bought the sears craftsman. Of course if it breaks they'll replace it, but the thing is, the older craftsman are high quality made in the USA. Today's craftsman, after Lowe's bought them from sears when sears went bankrupt, their rachet wrenches and socket(some sockets made in Tawain good quality) these tool are made low quality in China. If you have the older tool like a ratchet and it broke, take it to get fix at a tool smith. They gonna have to prey my USA tool from my dead body

HFT 225 Pittsburgh set MSRP $144, after various coupon offers, is definitely the best overall value in my opinion. I've seen this for $129, $119, etc. Superb kit to keep in the truck.

HFT has the fastest and easiest warranty policy, ever. No waiting to have your ratchet rebuilt.
