Game stop has been running those Pokémon events since at least NDS ear. It was never string attached to my knowledge.

The TCG is going nuts for the last 9 months to 1 year...everywhere here near me is out of codes because they also released the newest TCG set, Mega Evolutions, on the same day. Scalpers all went to buy out the TCG and claimed up the free code cards too. They are reselling now on ebay for like $40-50 :/ good luck finding these in the wild

All Gamestops in my area had given out all the cards within about 15 mintues. Now half of them are on FB marketplace for $50.

I'm actually curious about the pokemon trading going on. My kid has been wanting to trade cards with people but doesn't have anyone to trade with.

Looks like they're simplifying this. Rumors were you'd need to bring in your Switch console and show them your Home screen with the game on it to receive a scratch card with a code, as an anti-scalping measure. Seems they may have dropped this requirement.

This event is managed so badly and most of the codes were given to scalpers hands. If you want shiny Koraidon or Miraidon, just PKHex one.

I never had a problem getting one for my kid until now. The employee said they had a Pokemon event too last Friday and 'poof'... 100 gone in an hour. Luckily my son said "don't worry dad I will just hack one."
