That's a lot better than I was expecting, honestly. Assume that you would mainly use this where you can't pack in your own clean water, so it's probably not an everyday item either way.
Thoughts on storage? I put all my hydration bladder parts in the freezer between uses, but not sure if filters can do that, too.

This is basically the only way to fark up a filter and the #1 tip backpackers/outdoors people should learn regarding water filtration. There will be water leftover inside the filter and water expands when it turns to ice -> it'll destroy the membranes in the filter. The filter will appear to still work but it is allowing pathogens through.
For overnighters where temp may drop into freezing territory, you should actually have your filtration device inside your sleeping bag so your bodyheat can prevent it from freezing. For borderline nights, usually I just bring into my tent and hope it stays marginally above freezing, this way I don't risk the residual water getting my sleeping bag wet.
This is a bit of an odd product. Maybe more as a sanity item for traveling overseas where tap water may not be potable. Grayl water bottles are more popular for that (but much more expensive).
For ourdoors activities, I'd recommend sticking to the classics like Katadyn Befree or Sawyer Squeeze. These are lightweight, effective, not much more expensive, and they have filtration lifespans on the order of thousand(s) of Liters or more. Sawyer Squeeze is supposed to last 100k gallons, albeit it'll likely clog or degrade by then
