Serious question, anyone know why blue ray players seem to be going up in price, I remember when VCRs and DVDs were on their way out, players got cheap. BlueRay players seem to be going to the other direction?

This is a 4k Blu-ray player.
Your average run of the mill Blu-ray player has been sub $100 for years now.

Because the majority(by a wide margin) of people don't bother with 4k, BR is good enough. As a matter of fact DVD sales outsells Blu Ray & UHD combined. They will play on a BR players.

Because your tv is designed for them. Streaming gives you a dithered signal of compressed video. These things work at full fidelity.

This is a very entry/barebones level prayer. Panasonic is known for their HCX & Optimizer processing which this does not include. It also does not support Dolby Vision.

I'm a bit confused in this area and would like clarification. If one has an amp that supports Dolby Vision, then why can't the audio from the player go passthru to the amp for decoding and speakers? aka, why pay for Dolby Vision on the player and also pay for it on the audio amp?

Would like to know more. I have a nvidia shield TV and a usb 4k player, in which i just rip the disk and playback over plex server on lan. Works good, but having issues there recently with 4k disk rips, so looking at players.

Some clarification Dolby Vision is a picture thing not an audio/speaker thing.

Regarding Dolby Vision, think of it as everything has to be capable or you can't take advantage of it(content>device/player>display).
Since this player is not capable of Dolby Vision, you can not take advantage of it.
