Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank freakingwilly

DIY recipe, which cleans just as good:

11oz water
2oz of dish soap
1oz 70% isopropyl alcohol
Optional: a few drops of essential/scented oil

Add to an empty bottle in the above order, shake, and spray. Note that you will need a foaming sprayer like the one that comes with the actual Dawn Powerwash.

Most online recipes call for 13oz of water, but that dilutes the solution too much and creates weak foam. Stick with 11oz and it'll be great. I recommend adding a scent as the basic formula above will smell like rubbing alcohol.

I was wondering if you can make this yourself?

Joking. Seems like that comment is on every one of the posts for this stuff.

Awhile back someone actually isolated the chemical/process that explained why these homemade versions are never as good—one sec I'll look it up..

EDIT: Dipropylene Glycol Butyl Ether is the chemical and it works by "bridging the gap" between water and oil-based substances, allowing them to emulsify & clean more effectively than you can with just soap and water. It also prevents nozzle clogs since the solution is stable and the soap can't separate/solidify.

Don't get me wrong: the homemade stuff DOES work, but amount of time & frustration I save by using this more effective butyl ether-based mix makes it worth it to me... but ONLY so long as I can get it on sale. I won't pay retail (~$4-5 for a 16oz bottle LOL).

In my opinion, at this price point it doesn't really make sense to DIY this; it's not like isopropyl alcohol and dish soap are free, even if you're not using nearly as much of it.

maybe I'm crazy but this is my go to soap for my hands. Quick spray and the soap washes off easy and my hands feel super clean. I have an aversion towards a soapy feeling on my skin and I don't get that with this spray.

I've tried mixing soap with water to make my own, but the soap aerosolizes and I'm coughing on it like toxic gas.

This stuff works like magic on stainless steel appliances, even better than stainless cleaners. And for the record, the homemade versions never work as well. I can save you the trouble since I watched a bunch of YouTube videos comparing the two by numerous people. Powerwash won each and every time.
