Honestly, no really good way of monetizing those rewards points. If you don't mind waiting until Black Friday (season), and you need a computer or electronics, you can use the points on some pretty decent deals (points don't expire, unless you take more than 18 months in between Staples transactions). Also, sometimes clearance items in the back yield some surprisingly good finds on anything from Bluetooth headsets to lunch ice packs. Lastly, Staples has a decent pricematching policy that allows you to go in-store and show them on your Amazon app (for example), "Hey, can you pricematch this item?" and then after the pricematch you can use your points to purchase it.

So far:
100% back on batteries up to $100, then $50 (some of the previous offers)
100% back on K-Cups up to $50, then $40
100% back on Sharpie up to $40
100% back on Post-Its up to $40
100% back on paper (was that limit up to $100? $120? I've forgotten)

You can't recycle the rewards, right?

What will one do with so much rewards from buying overpriced luggage?

Buy next overpriced item?
Stop trolling. If this not for you, move on and jump on those sparkling water deals

Some other ideas: if you're not a coffee drinker, you can always donate the K-Cups to a charity, nonprofit, church, school (for the teachers, not the students!) police or fire station - there are plenty of places that would be thrilled if you gave them these.

Bartering is another option - I'm sure you can let your imagination run wild with the possibilities of trading this for something else - goods, services.

Once I earn the Staples Rewards points and use it to buy other items (I.e. office supplies), does staples let you use a coupon and then pay for remaining balance with your points?

Yes, I've done that plenty of times.

E.g., $60 item, apply a $10 coupon, then $50 is due. Apply $50 in points (10,000 points) and the entire thing is free.

Bonus: if they process the points redemption like they do in many states, you don't get charged sales tax on the amounts paid for by points.

E.g.2, $59.99 item, apply $10 coupon, then $49.99 is due, plus tax. If you apply 9800 points (you can only apply points on whole dollars), then $0.99 is due, plus sales tax on the $0.99.

I used to jump all over the 'free after Rewards' deals. But then I had so many rewards...it's not all "free money" because I would never have overpaid for the items so much, and they were items that I wouldn't normally buy, didn't necessarily need, or need at the moment. If I buy $100-$200 worth of luggage, what would I spend $100-$200 on at overpriced Staples? I used to buy toilet tissues or ink or stuff like that with the rewards -- but I don't think I need toilet tissues for a decade now! And any real 'office supplies' including ink, my company pays for. So what do people use the rewards on, that is something they'd really want/use anyway (not making up ways to use the rewards)? I'm really curious, it's not a troll. Just wait for a sale so it's not so overpriced? A sale on what?

Thanks for sharing. Seems lots of luggage is 50% off right now. So I assume this is just the same level of deal depending on how you value the point.

I haven't noticed Staples deliberately raising prices/restoring to retail prices when these "100% back in rewards points" deals happen. The 50% off discount on luggage pieces will probably be reduced, but I'm hoping that they won't go back up to retail for all of them. Hopefully. At least for the Keurig deal this week, some of the boxes are still on sale. And if you happen to notice an old tag (with a sale price) on a K-Cup box, you can likely get a Staples associate to adjust the price.

I know they have updated their price match policy but im still able to buy frozen items such as hot pockets, pizza rolls, etc and price match it to costco and sams club. ymmv since their price match terms have changed to name specific stores now. added bonus is that its delivered to you with dry ice and the kiddos love playing with it when i put it in a bowl with water and soap.

I took a look at the luggage and their prices. All the luggage (20" and up) are hard side.
Whether you buy one or more pieces at Staples, the price is high for all brands, including Bond Street, Swiss Mobility and Samsonite.
Buying from Amazon, eBay or Walmart makes more economical sense (cheaper) without having to deal with rewards.

My guess is, they will cap the rewards at maybe $100. Can't imagine it will be unlimited.

However, to your 'naysayer' comments, you can price match identical pieces found less on AMZ or WMT, AND STILL GET the rewards. The rewards do not expire and I"m sure in the next 3-6 months you can find useful stuff to redeem them on.

I'm actually kind of tired of people who show up in Staples free after rewards threads thinking they know best, do no due diligence on how to best max out a deal like this and don't ask for advice either. Just offer incorrect advice to others.

Naturally one can bank 'too many rewards'. However, unlike many rewards programs, Staples rewards do not expire so you can hedge your bets when to use them most efficiently.

As to what to spend them on? I've often spent them on coffee, paper goods, cleaning goods. Black Friday/CyBer Monday deals (coming up very soon), school supplies/office supplies, and have monetized rewards by purchasing crazy good deals and re-selling them, sometimes at a profit on local FB yard sale groups.

Not to mention, it's a good way to get a new Chromebook/laptop/tablet/PC, free or cheap if you expect to need one in the months ahead or for a kid with school needs.

Really have to play the game creatively and max out the upfront end of these deals via price match and then again on the back end. When they have the case paper on sale, sometimes at $35 you can easily buy that and flip them for $40-45 monetizing them and making some extra cash for your time/trouble.

They expire in 18 months, _unless_ you do some transaction at Staples (buy something, redeem points). If you do that at least once every 18 months, the points last forever. That being said, you never know if the Rewards program will change sometime in the future.

I've been eyeing a Samsonite hardside carry-on in our Staples store priced at $149.00. Same one costs $179.88 at Amazon.

https://www.staples.com/samsonite...t_24599181

https://www.amazon.com/Samsonite-...B0CQPGZMN8

Guessing that this reward points deal will only be for in-store purchases..?
