Hi Slimeyface Thanks for inquiring. Long story somewhat shorter, around the end of March, the fluctuating tariff situation prompted many sellers who run shops on AliExpress to either move or increase the amount of inventory they ship directly from warehouses within the U.S. vs. shipping from overseas (China). The trade-off was slightly higher prices for goods in some cases; but one benefit to customers was that it cut down the risk of potential scams and lowered wait times for purchases to arrive to shoppers. AliExpress also has fairly frequent sales and you can almost always find working coupons even when there is no active sale event happening. Today, prices are still a tad higher in some cases than what they were pre-April (for instance, the R36S retro handheld used to hit as low as $18-$20 before; now it's around $25, which many still find to be a reasonable cost for what you get); however, they've come down a bit since the initial phase of sellers spending money to move part of their operations here.

Slickdeals was able to update their posting guidelines (here) in early June in lieu of this; so now anyone (including yourself and other members, not just staff - example, example, example, and so on) can post deals they find on AliExpress as long as the seller has solid enough ratings and their inventory is shipped from within the United States. This helps to explain why people are seeing more AliExpress deals than they were previously accustomed to. For the record, I do not receive a commission or any other incentives from either Slickdeals, AliExpress, any seller, any manufacturer/company, or anyone at all for anything I post. Gaming in general is a personal hobby and I even own - some could credibly argue "too" - many of the retro handhelds that I post (I pay the same amount as anyone else using the same coupons available to everyone else; no special incentives or discounts).

Always staff posts. SD had been giving them a cut.

decent controller for the price; minor quibbles when connected to my pc; windows 11.
On one USB port, the pairing with the dongle would frequently be lost and would have to reset.
On a different USB port, it would connect to "LED 1 (meant for nintendo switch)", but isn't usable for PCs. I would have to turn off and on the controller again before it automatically changed to PC mode.
No software/profiles. good for simplicity once you memorize how to adjust the back paddle buttons. But if you want different setups for different games, then you'll have to manually change what the paddles do each time.

If you can fork out $30, check out the elves 2 controller from gulikit. It's a sega saturn form factor controller that is good for travel since its tiny, lasts ~20 hours, low latency bluetooth, and also comes with a case. It's also the first controller from a third party that can wake up the Switch 2 from sleep if you have one.

EDIT: If you want the size it's roughly 6 inches (length) by 3.5 inches (height) by 1.75 inches (Depth) (Measured from bottom of controller to highest point of analog stick).

Between this controller and the erstwhile Google Stadia controllers, which support Bluetooth and wired connections, which one is better? Assume that I could find a Stadia controller new in box for a similar price from FB Marketplace.

Neither of those work with an XBox or PS5, right?

Aliexpress usually sends garbage instead of actual items and takes forever? And I don't know how that is legal?
Most people I know don't have this problem? (myself included) Maybe you had bad luck with one seller?

I got one of these last month. They can be a (and mine was) a couple $ cheaper - I believe I paid $13. Very solid, moreso than a less than $20 controller would seem. The fact that this does bluetooth, 2.4g and switch was the best part. I use with a PS2 using a bluetooth adapter and lag is imperceptible.

That's not my experience.
I've ordered from them for more than 10 years while living in different countries and like 95% of the times you get what you were supposed to get. 3% might be something that got damaged, and the remaining 2% something that just didn't work.
And now it's kind of fast, sometimes even faster than Amazon if you dont have Prime
