If you go to your subscriptions and have recurring payments on, you'll see that next billing is $29.99. So op's not scamming.
Mine still says $19.99 but its due to renew on Oct 11. Maybe bc I've had the service for a long time and typically get free codes from MS rewards or discounted ones from cdkeys?
I think the cutoff for current subscribers is 11/4 or maybe 11/5. I had recurring billing off, then turned it on just to see what would happen. My Ultimate sub expires on 11/1 and now with recurring billing they say they will charge 19.99+tax on 11/2. Not sure what I am going to do now. I might let it ride for the 20 in November, or I might cancel before then if I'm in a bad mood.

Does anyone know if using the VPN trick to buy from other countries and convert it to this still works? It is much cheaper that way.

Confirmed that 3 Months of PC Game Pass for $35.99 (I got mine from Target w/ additional 5% Red Card discount) is a better deal, as it converts to 2 months of Ultimate. Comes out to $17.10/mo w/ 5% Red Card discount, $18/mo without.

Warning to those who stock up on these. I purchased and redeemed 3 years worth of Game Pass gift cards. After a few months, my account was hacked and locked due to suspicious activity.

I asked Microsoft to unlock the account. It took them 3 months to tell me they couldn't and "although we are sure this isnt the answer you want to hear," they wouldn't give me any credit for the two plus years of Xbox Ultimate Game Pass I had on the account, nor would they refund me the annual Office 365 subscription I had purchased a week before my account was compromised.

That's what I get for paying for too much in advance.

I have fond memories of catching the 3-month cards for $25 during black friday. Yep... those were the days. I'm sure Gamepass is still a good deal but the price increase has soured me on the whole thing. I will boycott until they lower the prices.

I have a feeling Microsoft is going to find "suspicious activity" on everyones account who didn't purchase it at $30 a month.

Are they though? I know Microsoft is betting big into AI like every other tech player out there. However, I honestly haven't seen anyone on the consumer side paying for their AI products.Sure, they'll advertise Copilot 24/7, but most people stay at the free/lowest tiers of ChatGPT/Copilot/Grok. AI's cranking out better and better generative-slop novelties but no must-have killer apps.I will definitely admit that AI is still a killer buzzword when attracting blind investments though. Not sure why a litterbox needs AI, but one can certainly get funding for it!
Noone cares about individual customers right now. when ai is strong enough (e.g. smaller companies are gone) - we will pay. Corporations are more important now and they pay millions (if not billions) already.

PSA: Microsoft revamps Xbox Game Pass plans and hikes Ultimate to $29.99 a month TODAY so grab them for $20/month while there's still time.
https://www.theverge.com/news/789...se-changes

edit: Microsoft has already updated their internal pricing to $30.
I still.have 18 months of Ultimate left at $10/month. When it runs out I won't sub any longer

Again, all the revenue I'm seeing is in research and investment, less so acquiring revenue. Hopefully someone finds a use case that doesn't get walked back. Otherwise, damn this is going to be an impressive bubble lol

I already had over 2 years of stacked Ultimate on my account. I bought some xbox 3 month core passes from Eneba to get close to 3 years. Comes out to about $16.60 of ultimate per month.

Will Xbox even be around in 3 years??

For non current subscribers, i think the wise move is only get 1 month at a time to catch up on the xbox catalog when needed. $360 a year is absurd now.
Xbox might end up hurting (because they just axed their platform's last unique selling point). Microsoft won't be hurting though. Heck with as many game studios they own now, Microsoft will still remain relevant in gaming even if Xbox hardware closed up shop entirely.
