Does anyone know if these are set up and ready to play? Is the action reduced, or is it simply a standard action that requires adjustments?

They come pretty good assuming they didn't get too knocked around in shipping. Every indio I have had has needed a good fret board oil, but this maple will be fine in that regard. You dont oil maple!

In my experience, Indio guitars are very hit or miss with regards to setup. Sometimes they are very good out of the box, other times they need a fair amount of adjustments. The worst I received was actually a DLX Plus Stat (that one was an HSS), and the nut was cut far too low on the low E string. (That one also had sharp frets that took some work.) Conversely, one of the cheap Teles needed the nut slots filed down, while a cheap bass was near perfect out of the box (literally only requiring a quarter turn on the neck to make everything spot on). I always replace the strings out of the box, so I can't comment on the quality of the strings.

Every new guitar will need to have a setup to ensure maximum playability.

My much more expensive fender and Gibson guitars still needed me to set them up and my new Yamaha acoustic was actually unplayable until I set it up with a whole new bridge and saddle.
