looks only matter to players with low to marginal skill
i have 3 black indio retros (telecaster knock off,) with the maple necks and maple fret boards i got for $33.33 each shipped a few years ago when 2 deep discount coupon codes stacked together along with the 3+ quantity discount...they are the best guitars i have ever played in every way and not lying or exaggerating...its that simple. ive been playing for 35 years and am skilled and have 16 other guitars including 89 les paul, etc. and none are even close to how good these indio retros are. the sound , the pickups the construction, the finish, the hardware, the worksmanship - all tops. only weakness is the average tuners but they're still fine. it is truly amazing. i would not sell any of them for under $1000.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. My monoprice tele had pickups that sounded terrible, thin and beyond help with an EQ. The neck is so weird to hold, and has an almost paper-like quality to it. Trying to use the guitar as a modding platform was a nightmare. One of the control plate screwholes wasn't placed far enough from the cavity so they connect and needs loctite. All the pickup and control cavities are very small and replacing parts requires a router or dremel. My replacement pickups wouldn't fit without extra work, nor would my replacement pots. It's a great starter kids guitar for a cheap way to introduce music, but they feel extremely cheap and not at all durable with poor construction. Any run of the mill squier bullet or noname pawn shop find is going to be a better guitar. At least the name on the headstock comes off easily with magic eraser.
