The G series replaced the E series as their budget line. But the Gs are better equipped, e.g., Power and Stylus models. I for one am grateful for the availability of <$100 phone options.

* Showing OOS/limited stock in my area and $79 with $30 off with in-store activation of $40 or higher plan.

Adding a data point: US Mobile with DarkStar (AT&T Network) works via eSIM on IMEI2 while the phone is still locked to AT&T Prepaid.
Kept the preinstalled (unactivated) AT&T prepaid physical SIM card in the phone occupying IMEI1.
All is working well. Calls/Text/5G Data. When first attempting the transfer with service on Warp (VZW Network) the eSIM transfer would not go through.
Requested US Mobile to change my line's network to DarkStar and it installed without a hitch.

I have a postpaid AT&T line and wanted to use a different phone and the Moto G Power was $79.99 at Walmart. Awesome phone for the price imo.

Definitely YMMV. At one store in the Houston area it was not marked for clearance, it was the regular price of $79.99. Found some on clearance at another store, but the clerk would not sell it to me without activating a phone plan. Frustrating, since I'm already on AT&T prepaid and just wanted to replace my janky phone.

Marked 50% off in-store clearance sale.

8GB Ram 128GB Storage

No service plan purchase required.

Works with AT&T prepaid or AT&T postpaid.
Requires 6 months of paid service to become eligible for unlock

So weird, I thought the gov't said 60 days for unlock...
Only for Verizon as part of a deal they made awhile ago.

would this work with an att mvno?
Possibly. Pretty sure it will work with Cricket. Historically, ATT locked phones work with Cricket. Physical SIM cards cards, at least.

Won't start the unlock cycle though.

Motorola phones are shovelware now. The only way they can make money is by cranking out very cheap models as often as possible with no support for the previous models. (Maybe except for moto razr)
The regular Moto G is crap but the G Power and Stylus are pretty decent. I got the 2024 G Power and it has 120hz screen, 8gb ram, and a more powerful CPU than this 2025 model. Install a gcam mod and you got a pretty nice device for under $100.

I got a 2024 Moto G Stylus 5G with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, 8GB RAM, 128GB ROM and a microSD slot (1TB card). I have a Backbone controller attached and it makes for a great emulation device. Running Arcade roms, Dreamcast, PSP, PS2 and 3DS. It can even run some Yuzu Switch games.

Just had one unlocked today on day 59 with TFW using the 90 day $19.99 plan for new activation.
To clarify, you purchased the 19.99 basic plan on the website, received a PIN and used the PIN to activate? Or when you activated the phone, it allowed you to pick a basic plan? I didn't think the website would allow you to buy a basic plan if it knows the phone is a smartphone.

Like anything TFW there are a bit of inconsistencies on their website. A few of their phones don't require plan purchase for whatever reason. The A36 was one of them at the time. So ordered the phone plan free, then picked up 90 day 60|60 'basic phone' plan for $19.99 in person and used it to activate phone.

My experience: No Frown
It was 50% off at my Target ($25) so I grabbed it. I was going to use it with an AirVoice sim, which is an AT&T mvno so I've always been able to use AT&T prepaids with it. When I removed the AT&T sim that came with the phone, the phone automatcally pulled up the "Device Unlock" app and it will not allow you to access the phone other than the dialer. Initially it recognized the AirVoice sim for less than a second and it went back to the Device Unlock app. Any time I remove the AT&T sim, it "locks" the phone and will only allow the Device Unlock app to come up. I have not been able to find a way to circumvent the Device Unlock app or delete it. So if anyone is looking to use this phone as wifi only, yes, I am able to do that *as long as the original sim that the device came with is inserted and airplane mode is on. If you ever remove the AT&T sim, you will not be able to use the device at all, even on airplane mode. I suspect if you're able to find a way to unlock this phone or disable the Device Unlock app, it will probably work with an mvno sim. If anyone finds a workaround, please message me!

Prepaid AT&T phones come with sims now? Okay, it's been a few years.
