TLDR: I think this is still a good deal and I'm happy with my purchase - both on performance and usability.
When I was purchasing, customer service offered and I bought a 3-year premium warranty you can get for a few hundred. It's refundable if you don't use it, but you need to keep an eye on it and make a claim - they don't automate the refund.
I use the 1TB drive for my OS and installed WD BLACK 2TB SN8100 for my games (the second nvme slot is under the video card).
I also replaced the RAM with Acer Predator Pallas II DDR5 RAM 64GB (32GBx2) 6400MHz CL30 PC5-51200. Enabling XMP was painless.
I have been playing Battlefield 6, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, Helldivers 2, Peak, and a few other titles. My FPS is largely consistent with three friends I usually play with - two are running an AMD 9800x3d system with a 5090 and the other is running a 14th gen intel with a 5090 (not sure which CPU he has, but I presume it's whatever was top of the line a couple years ago).
While my friends are sometimes fumbling with fan control settings (I care about this) and RGB controls (I do not care about this at all), the Omen software has been very user friendly and seems to work well on these topics. Moreover, I was able to just able to just start using this machine with very minimal messing around with settings, installation, etc. It was very painless and I'm glad my unit seems to have been put together well. The RGB lighting was a nice surprise to customize a few months after I bought the computer (and I realized was customizable). However, there are advertisements in the OMEN Gaming Hub - this is annoying - but i'm rarely in the app so it's not an issue on the daily.
On to the entertaining Gamers Nexus review, my initial opinion is the review was outdated by the time I received my computer. I suspect there have been software/bios updates but also their opinion appears to be heavily skewed on the basis "it's a $5,000 computer." No - it's a $3200 computer - it may have had a $5k msrp, but I doubt anyone paying attention actually paid that much. At $5k, I agree with the reviewer's sentiment that the computer should be nicer, higher performance, etc. - but for less than $4k, it seems to be a reasonably good value (and at least for me, a way to get a 5090 without paying a premium).
On the technical side, without doing much other than setting my Omen app to "extreme" mode, and running all my usual background apps, I just hit a Blender 4.5.0 score of 550 (https://opendata.blende
On the "extreme" mode - I never saw any popup or other message that I was voiding my warranty by enabling this setting - so it would seem this is not an issue anymore.
The 5090 appears to be performing as it should - which is the main reason I bought the machine in the first place. With my laziness factor, I have a 13940 on Blender 4.5.0 (https://opendata.blende
The only problem I've had with this machine is the current draw blew out one of my very old Monster power strips. After a brief panic, this was quickly resolved....
