I normally like lego trains, but this one is small and can't be powered with any first-party motor kit.

What other Lego trains do you like better? I've been thinking about getting one this year.

I saw an ad for the "holiday express train," which looks cool. Do you have to buy a lot more track for kids to be able to go round in a circle with it?

I don't have this set, but I did have that question when I saw the set on sale at Target, and a quick google gave me this video, which does indeed look like a motorize of this set with the current motor and battery box from Lego:
