Having bought one of these as a gift for a friend, buyer beware, these are junk. Does not clear much snow at all. Better off using a shovel.

Thanks, thought about getting for my parents who are getting too old to shovel.

I agree with the first commenter... I bought one of these 2 years ago to try out. If you're considering getting this, buy a leaf blower - it will be more effective and much lighter.

Not sure why the hate here. No, this is not as effective as a 2 stage beast (Gas or Ego/Ryobi battery), it is though as effective as any 1 stage with rubber or plastic impellers as it can be.

No it doesn't work perfectly on heavy wet mid-fall or early spring snow. Does it work on average to dry snow from Dec-Feb in the upper states? Absolutely

I used a Greenworks? corded for about 10 yrs (after 10 yrs of manual shovelling!) and after it died switched to this one and used it for 2 years before switching to an Ego 2 stage.

This will even work on plowed street snow -- so long as you break it up with a flat steel blade shovel. Ideal? No? Not heart-attack inducing like shoveling by hand? Absolutely

And this one is metal auger frame with multi-layer reinforced rubber/nylon for the paddles. This means this will not shatter the first large ice chunk / asphalt chunk you hit that the plow leaves in your driveway entrance. So many of the <$200 1 stagers only use plastic now.

For $76 this is not a bad deal at all. $200+ it would be bad.

I've used this for 4+ years and it does great except for wet snow and the huge berms from snowplows at the end of the driveway. Just ordered a 2nd one

I have to respectfully disagree with both of you. I've had the 15A version (mine looks slightly different) for many years now (Ordered on October 21, 2016 from Amazon, model #SJ623E).

I've used it every year except one since (Virginia winters are hit or miss), and I've never had an issue with it clearing anything 8-in or less, including a few wet heavy snows.

It's not self-propelled, so you can't have spaghetti arms, and the chute clogs somewhat frequently (spray lubricant helps), but anyone that says this is harder than shovelings 6-8 inches of show is on drugs or has never shoveled snow. UNLESS they've made some major changes since 2016.

It's also not two-stage, so you have to temper your expectations - you may have to clear a few feet, back it off if it starts to bog, and then re-approach. Finally, if you get more than 6-8-in of snow at a time, you'll have to clear every few hours and not wait until you've got 18in on the driveway, but that's common sense. And if you're regularly getting that much snow, you live in WV or New England and likely already have a nice two-stage gas blower anyway.

EDIT: I paid $140 in 2016, so like 1.5 Million in today's dollars. This is a helluva deal at under $80.

Compared to a gas blower, this is not nearly as powerful. That being said, I've used it for the last two winters on my driveway without too much struggle -- it is 1000% better than using a shovel. The most annoying part is having to wrangle an extension cord.

Don't buy this junk. It has a weak plastic pulley which will break very easily. Mine did break after a few light uses. The worst part is that Snow Joe does not carry the replacement part. If you call them, they just gave you the part number and ask you to find it yourself. I have waited more than two years with a hope someone will magically start to sell the part somewhere, but this post reminds me to throw a this junk.

For this cheap of a price it seems tempting. But I don't usually get a lot of snow. 2-3 inches maybe a couple times a year and an occasional dusting. I usually one hand push the shovel around because I'm too impatient for the HOA to decide if it's minimum depth to require removal and if they do, it takes too long for them to get around the neighborhood. But $76 seems almost worth the speculation.

thanks for posting this, I also disagree to an extent, with the negative comments and actually ordered 2 last week when they were about 100 dollars each because that was a steal. bought 2 now, and will get refunded for the other order!

the quality is definitely flimsy. I bought my first one (same model) about 3.5 years ago. within that time, I had to replace the auger belt once, and now the pulley system is worn out (bolt just spins inside the cheap plastic pulley).

considering relatively light Chicago weather we've had in recent years, I would say I got "2 full seasons" of use out of it.
I paid 200 dollars for it, and at that price, no way... but to get 2 years for 75 bucks - I will take that all day long over gas. that's 750 dollars over 20 years with basically 0 maintenance, and plenty of spare parts in case of failure... yes pls!

2-3 inches couple of times a year is definitely not worth getting this (or any blower, unless you have certain physical needs).

I have a 36 inch push shovel from home depot that works amazingly well for that type of snow, and I can clear my 150 ft driveway/circle drive within 30 min with very little effort.

Been using it for a few years...works decently well for snow fall not more than ~8"

It is not faster than shoveling but way easier on your body.
I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews. It won't operate as well as a gas powered one....so perhaps they are comparing apples to oranges?

if you're somewhat handy, you can take it apart and use some JB weld. The main issue I had was the bolt wearing down the center 'ring' so that the pulley spins but the auger doesn't.

taking the pulley out, adding 'slits' in the plastic, and bracing it with some thin steel support will make it mostly last forever for less than 10 bucks.

agreed though, the pulley is trash, and the general quality of the overall product is cheap (like the price!)

I had one of these. OK for 3-6" of snow. Better for light snow. Under 3", don't even bother breaking it out. If you're getting heavier snow, go out and do passes every 3-5". If you wait until the end and it compacts, it's not going to be very effective.

WIth roughly 225' of driveway, I appreciated how much it saved my back. It didn't really save me any time, though.

Also, be sure to factor in the need for a quality extension cord that can handle 15 amps, or you will stress and possibly burn out the motor. I was pretty fortunate to have a semi-circular driveway with power at the top, so 100' was good for the job.
