I know it's anecdotal, but 3 people I know with this type of machine (steam decks) have offered to sell them to me after about 6 months. Common complaints I hear is that updates are a bit excessive for a handheld, they're to big, and the software is pretty hit or miss. Cool idea, just not that practical.

That's why I still have mine Nintendo switch lite - I travel a lot and this is why it's the best console for me. Huge library of games and super portable, lightweight console

I know it's anecdotal but I know of at least half a dozen people with Steam Decks or other handhelds that have had theirs for years, including me, and love them and won't be selling or getting rid of one any time soon. Cool idea and very practical.

Yep, I'm sure there are plenty of use cases where they work well. Techy people will know what they are getting into and have fun with it for sure.

I've had my Deck for over 2 years, travel the world with it and have zero compaints with it. I even just bought a Legion Go S with a better APU (the Z1E) and I'm not going to sell the Deck. All these handhelds are practical for pretty much anything.
The 3 people you know, must have got their Deck's as a knee jerk reaction to other people saying how they enoyed theirs when they didn't look to see what it can and can't do.
Linux is solid so it's more or less that they couldn't figure it out and are Windows people.

Had a steam deck for a couple of years. Not my experience at all. It is big, but works very well and tons of easy mods for it with SW and hardware.
