You may be able to put it on AppleCare One, but not a separate plan unless it's still under the original 1 year warranty.

Would the generic charger be an issue? Is it MagSafe or USB-C?

Trying to think of the use case for this. 48gb of RAM means I want to do some serious AI or media work, but the pro processor is bad for both.

I have a similar one from work.
It can use both, come with magsafe, 140w, I leave it at home.
At office I use the usb-c cable from the monitor.

For usb-c, I think it has to be 65w+?

If only the current eBay 20% code worked on this... would buy immediately
edit: actually found a listing that works with the code, but higher price and half the ram: https://www.ebay.com/itm/167797496394

If this unit is less than 1 year old, it may have Apple Care and it may be possible to extend it. If not, it's within 4 years of manufacturer so it should be eligible for AppleCare One either way.
Apple will mark some equipment as not being eligible for any warranty. That would mean this was a unit that was returned or made from parts.
