You can do a test run on your phone with remote play and Bluetooth in your controller

Nice deal! Been meaning to try it and the open box pricing makes it a good trial value.

are these worth it to a casual gamer? the idea of it seems cool but is it worth $150 to play in a small screen on the couch instead of walking upstairs to play on the big screen

I bought one last year -- it all depends on the type of games and where/what you play. Most big games, I'd rather plan on a big TV with good sound. I don't want to play an AAA title on a 7" screen, but it's super nice to have at your computer desk to play pick up and play games or do repetitive stuff.. I loved it for stuff like fishing in stellar blade or finding hidden outfits following a map since I didn't need to be in front of my TV for that, it let me do it from my computer. I found lag to be very minimal, at least for me, and that's 2 rooms away from the router. Most people seem to like this so someone else can use the TV while they're playing.. or: wife watching TV while you're playing a game in the same room. Worth it? Debatable, really comes down to if you had extra money. The fact it doesn't do HDR is a bummer, but it does look good

I had one for a day. It was nice. Make sure you connect your PS5 to Ethernet or it will lag. My only issue was it gave me bad motion sickness. I couldn't get far enough away from it.

I love mine and rarely play my ps5 on a tv anymore. I have a wife and two kids so this allows me to play while they use the tv which is super nice. It does lag on occasion but there are some easy setting changes to help it. Overall I think it's worth the price.

this is probably good for open world games. If you are thr grindy type of player that just wants to play while watching your TV.

I would not recommend buying in store pickup unless your local Best Buy is a pretty good one. I did in store pickup on an excellent condition one that was far from that condition. Store gave me a really hard time about it. Ended up having Best Buy Online just price match my original total to order online.

I love mine and would recommend for any PS5 owner

Not sure why the hate on this comment. He's 100% right. The Portal is GARBAGE. Tried it twice. The second time I talked myself into it saying, "Was it really that bad?!" Yeah...It's that bad. Cool idea. Doesn't work.

What issues did you have? I have one and I'm in the middle. Wouldn't buy it again, but I didn't think it was terrible either.

For me, there was very slight lag and a small amount of clarity loss. Definitely serviceable, but at that point I'll play a dedicated handheld or go to the TV to get the full experience.

This is one of the most misunderstood products out there. People who can't get over the fact Sony didn't make another psp/psvita and can't see the niche use case for the portal.
For parent gamers who have to share the TV and game mostly or exclusively in the abstain eco system this makes a lot of sense
It performs far better than people who haven't experienced it imagine. I don't have a portal but use a similar remote play for my ps5 called chiaki on the steam deck when I'm in another area of the house and it works amazingly well.

I wish these were actual full-fledged, standalone devices. This form factor is almost perfect vs clunkier, Windows based systems like a steam deck. If I had even basic functionality to play something, I think they would have sold better.
I don't need it to play AAA games.

This is misinformation. It does work. Maybe your wifi is garbage. The Portal is generally well received by PS5 users.
