I bought this for the same purpose but ended up returning it as the video seemed choppy all the time. Tried adjusting every setting I could find but ultimately couldn't get to run smoothly and went back to my other one which surprisingly was just an older version of this

Are you asking what people use a computer for?

I have been waiting for something like this to Run Pfsense and Home assistant. Price and specs are great.. Too bad it has only one NIC. Does someone has an affordable alternative with 2/4 Ethernet ports (preferred 2.5GB)

It will transcode one 4K stream or 2-3 at 1080p. If you need more than that, go bigger.
Wat
It'll 4-5 4k transcodes simultaneously.

Really not a great deal... This is better for the same price.

Why do you say it is better, other than the extra SATA drive connection. Also, no DisplayPort, just 2 HDMI instead of 1 of each, which is a matter of preference, and I like 1 of each. I would like one that has 2 M.2 2280 slots.

Can someone explain what the purpose of this would be?
It's a computer. Whatever you want. It would be a great office computer. Plenty powerful with a couple monitors added.

At that point why not just buy a laptop
Because I like the idea of working with components that I pick. I can update the screen, or the KB, or the unit itself.

Or use them with other units. Etc.

It's about control. It's about flexibility. It's about sustainability.

Everything is soldered in. You aren't going to replace components in a box like this. For peripherals, you plug them into a laptop just like you would plug them into this box.

Interesting small size computer. I guess it comes down to what you want to do with it. I would recommend going onYOUTUBE and look at pro reviewers reviews of these different pint size computers.

I personally like small tower computers I can open up and tinker with, and easy to trouble-shoot. Happy Hunting.

Why does it say it can only use up to 2TB drive? I am hoping to go ahead with a 4TB

Mostly familiarity, having come from OpenWRT on ARM. That said, my firewalling needs are pretty basic and I'm very happy with pretty much every aspect (except upgrades, which still annoy me). I'm running it on proxmox along with some infrastructure-related docker containers to make upgrades as easy/reversible as possible.

Just wondering, why do you run OPNSense over OpenWRT?
I've migrated from openwrt /ddwrt to opnsense on a main gateway. I'm still running OpenWRT on several WiFi APs). You can do much-much more with Opnsense, but if your needs are basic (dns, dhcp, wireguard, maybe couple of vlans) openwrt is absolutely adequate. But then $20 arm wifi router could be enough for this. (With high speed isp you might get bottlenecked though).

Same (except i got it for $100 back in August). Very adequate and no problems so far.
