Hanes socks are horrible these days. Thin material and they wear out quickly developing holes.

I used to like Hanes socks. Not anymore.

I have been looking for socks that have great thick heel and ankle cushioning so wearing work boots while actually working out is super comfortable. Any tips on what I'm looking for?

I've tried a few sets all from $2/pair to $10/pair and all of them let me down in different ways but most of the time the cushioning is the common frustration.

Should I be looking at something else for cushioning? Like a separate insole? If so, what then about the ankles?

A lot of the Amazon ones are knockoffs.

I'm interested if you find something really good.

These manufacturers change country of production frequently along with cheapening the product.

I never had a problem finding decent socks until the past few years.

If looking for decent socks, better than the current Hanes: I've found Dickies brand are pretty good, currently. They have a thinner top with a thicker bottom. However, they are by no means thick socks.

I would recommend getting insoles for sure. Cheap "work" or "heavy duty" insoles are a good starting place to see if you get any benefit at all.

Some stores have DrScholls machines that will measure where your pressure points are and recommend insoles. Using the machine is free. The insoles recommended are about $50. You can also take their recommendation and then find similar, cheaper, insoles that have the features recommended to you.

Some stores that specialize in running will also measure your feet and the way you walk. They will show you your pressure points and recommend insoles for about $50. You don't have to be a runner to go there.

The most effective is going to an orthopedic DR. And getting custom inserts made for your specific feet. This is super expensive compared to all else mentioned, but they are molded for your exact feet.

Good luck. Take care of your feet!

Not 100% cotton. Circulation matters
