The primary factors that degrade coffee are air, moisture, light, and heat. To keep your beans fresh, you need to protect them from these four elements. If you buy Lavazza whole beans in bulk and don't plan to use them right away, the freezer is a great option, but you need to do it correctly. Portion the beans into smaller, airtight containers or vacuum-sealed bags, so you can take out just what you need without thawing and re-freezing the entire batch, which ruins flavor. When you're ready to use a frozen portion, let the sealed container come to room temperature before you open it to prevent condensation from forming on the beans.

Pricing is about as good as you can get for decent whole bean at this point. Recent "deals" on Amazon for Lavazza have been about $13/bag (with S&S 15%) for their cheapest blends, where as Qualita Rossa is usually $2-4 more. Lavazza web site and ordering process is pretty janky though.
