As far as consoles it can play, you can expect pretty much all PSP games to play at full speed. So anything PSP and earlier will play flawlessly (PS1, Dreamcast, etc.). Sega Saturn games will still be hit or miss. This will play some lighter PS2 and GameCube games, but just consider these consoles a bonus.

The Unisoc T820 is significantly more powerful than the Snapdragon 662, featuring a faster, more modern CPU, a stronger GPU, and support for 5G. The Snapdragon 662 uses an older 11nm process with a less capable Adreno 610 GPU and lacks 5G, making it suitable for basic tasks and light gaming but falling short of the T820's capabilities.
Got the 406H for $100 recently, so this device is weaker, but has a 5.5 screen... I guess it's a tradeoff. I'm ok with a 4" screen as I think 5.5 for the games that could be played on it isn't worth it.

I bought my last retro console before the recent tarriff War and was looking forward to this device... the $90 dollar price is amazing for what you're getting but with the ridiculous 100%< tarriffs.... its not so much a great deal anymore...
The only shipping choice is Yun Express and it seems from a cursory google search they hand off to USPS once it passes customs and I've read of horror stories of ridiculous fees attached. The mangmi return policy seems to be pretty clear and its great that the OP mentions that people read it... that refused payments on misc fees like those customs related does not mean you will be refunded your money. You might end up not having to pay the fees if you refuse the package but you will lose that 90 bucks you spent on the item too...
Thats how I see it... I've avoided purchasing anything substantial from China since last year so I've never actually got hit by a tarriff payment directly... and id like to keep it that way...
If im overreacting for some reason... then please share your experience...

May eventually be cheaper even on aliexpress (if shipped from US).
Or I may wait for something like the Smartpro if I can find it for like $40 and call it a day. Currently have a 3.5" cheapo device (R36H) which cost me like $18 after cashback and it's surprisingly good for that price. Even came with a SD card (albeit likely one to explode eventually).

I'll hold off and get the RP4 instead.
Any recommendations for the budget one? The few I had on my shortlist were the RG CubeXX, RG40XX H, or RG 35XX Pro. The plan was something similar to those with custom firmware.

I've also been eyeing down the TrimUI Brick... but I really don't need any more of these retro consoles! And the AYN Thor has also caught my eye 😂. To be honest, the Thor will probably be my next premium device... its just so neat!
It depends on what you want to play and if you plan on always bringing it with you. A horizontal 4:3 device is going probably be the most versatile and comfortable for a budget device. For me, anything bigger than a 3.5" screen was just too big to be considered pocketable.
