Hmm have they changed their dessication process for the oats yet? Stopped giving my kids Cheerios bc there's high levels of glyphosate residue found in Cheerios and other oat products from their dessication process.

The ingredients in this Cheerios Oat Crunch cereal can be evaluated for their benefits and potential concerns.
Beneficial Ingredients

Several ingredients offer nutritional value or are generally benign:
  • Whole Grains (Whole Grain Oats, Whole Grain Corn): These are the most beneficial ingredients. Whole grains are good sources of dietary fiber (which aids digestion and can help lower cholesterol), vitamins, and minerals. They are associated with a reduced risk of heart disease and diabetes.
  • Vitamins and Minerals: The cereal is heavily fortified. These added nutrients (like Iron, Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamin, Vitamins A, C, $\text{B}_6$, $\text{B}_{12}$, $\text{D}_3$, Folic Acid, Calcium, Zinc, etc.) help fill potential nutrient gaps in the diet. This fortification can be particularly beneficial for children or individuals with restrictive diets.
  • Natural Flavors and Rosemary Extract: Natural flavors are generally considered safe, and Rosemary Extract is often used as a natural preservative and antioxidant.
Ingredients to Be Concerned About (Mainly Due to Added Sugar and Highly Refined Components)

The main areas of concern revolve around the amount of added sugar and the presence of refined ingredients:
  • Sugar: This is the second ingredient listed (after Whole Grain Oats). The nutrition facts show 10g of Total Sugars, and 10g of Added Sugars per serving (before milk). The recommended limit for added sugar is often $25\text{g}$ to $36\text{g}$ per day, so $10\text{g}$ is a significant contribution from a single serving of breakfast cereal. High intake of added sugars is linked to weight gain, increased risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and dental problems.
  • Corn Syrup, Refined Sugar, Molasses, Honey: These are all forms of added sugar contributing to the $10\text{g}$ total. The presence of multiple forms of sugar early in the ingredient list is a sign that the product is high in sugar.
  • Refined Flours (Rice Flour, Corn Starch): These are less nutritionally dense than whole grains. They are quickly digested, which can lead to rapid spikes in blood sugar. While they are not the primary ingredients, they are still present.
  • Oils (Modified Corn Starch, Canola and/or Sunflower Oil): These are primarily sources of fat. While canola and sunflower oils contain some healthy unsaturated fats, they are often used in processed foods to improve texture and shelf life and contribute to the caloric load.
  • Salt (Sodium): The cereal contains $240\text{mg}$ of sodium per serving (10% of the daily value), which is a moderate amount. While some sodium is necessary, many processed cereals contribute significantly to overall daily sodium intake, which can be a concern for blood pressure.
Summary

FeatureAssessmentDetailsBenefitsHighExcellent source of Whole Grains and is heavily Fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, which is great for filling nutrient gaps.ConcernsModerate to HighHigh amount of Added Sugar ($\mathbf{10\text{g}}$ per serving) and the presence of Refined Flours/Starches and multiple forms of sugar.
Bottom Line: This cereal is a mixed bag. It is fundamentally built on healthy whole grains and provides a wealth of micronutrients, making it a better option than many highly refined, low-fiber cereals. However, it is also a highly processed food with a high amount of added sugar, which should be the primary concern for regular consumption.

corn based cereals companies had admitted years ago its corn was being sprayed by dangerous chemicals a few years ago after being sued, they had said that by 2025 they would come up with a better product. I stopped eating them and many other products being sprayed with roundup type products. What is shocking is that it was allowed to be sold even with the knowledge of how bad it was for not only us but our kids. This is one example-there are many.
