Confused people should go with MacBook Air, since windows they will get more confused and may even jump out of window. For your safety go with MacBook.
Thanks for useless advice. Btw I used windows my whole life and recently started using MacBook for work, and I get it why MacBooks are so expensive.

I bought this refurb'd earlier from Lenovo Outlet in the summer with the Core 5 variant, 1TB, and 16GB RAM for ~$550 after tax. Arrived in 99.5% new condition and am very happy with how premium the laptop feels. The OLED screen is just a bonus - I'd rather have a higher res LCD panel (e.g. 2560x1600) when it comes to productivity over the lower res OLED panel however (the OLED is really nice if you love watching videos and such).

I've been in the same boat for last 6 months. Got MB Pro from work and I like the build, but it's heavy. Air would be much lighter, though I've tried the Air (M4) and it wasn't as snappy in various tasks. Plus the lack of open source application options.

This is a powerhouse in a lightweight package, so going to pick it up.

Are OLEDs safe to use by now? I saw a recent article that they all develop issues after a few years of use. I want to be able to use the laptop for 5-10yr

I got this recently refurbished for 600. Big fan - it's incredibly portable, snappy, and the 1080p screen is worth the great battery life, and the older e quality is very solid. I'm able to do basic video editing in davinci, and run older games without issue. The speakers are really good, and the keyboard feels great. My biggest complaint is that the trackpad feels cheap when clicking.

hows the fan noise on it? is it loud?

I bought a Dell Inspiron in 2017, but it has been completely useless since 2020. I understand that this is not a fair comparison considering the price range, but in my experience, iPhones and MacBooks tend to have longer lifespans compared to their counterparts.
I'm contemplating because I want to use open-source software, which is highly restricted on my MacBook. However, I'm worried that if I spend 1000 bucks on it, it might also die like my old Dell.

All really goes down to how much money you pour into it. Anecdotal evidence, my 2009 HP HDX is still kicking and so is a Toshiba from 2013.

Macbooks are great, but when it comes to open-source software, I found myself having fairly limited options. I had our IT provision a Windows VM so I could log in and use Windows for when I need to perform specific tasks. On a personal machine, I require large amount of SSD space, and Apple charges premium for that, so open-source and storage being bottlenecks.

I think you just need to run through what you do most and if Macbook would be a better option.

I have this laptop and it is fantastic: fast, good keyboard, light, and great screen. My only critical comment is that it has a mechanical trackpad rather than a haptic trackpad. The battery life is also one of the best for Windows laptops, at least 8 hours of decent on a charge. Highly recommended.

different CPU in that ebay model.

the Core Ultra 7 258V in this deal has better single core performance, worse multicore(because it has less cores and better battery life), better performing integrated video card.
