This is my MB configuration and it's still running strong with speedy video transcoding. I'll probably look at upgrading when it's M6, but I'm pretty sure my M1 will still be more than usable by then too. Primarily used for Photoshop and DaVinci Pro work.
weird pricing range. Hard not to spend $60 more and get an open box M4 macbook air, or spend $100-150 less and get an M1 macbook air.
I was kinda lucky to find unicorn config (M1 macbook air, with 1TB ssd and 16gb ram), i paid i believe $550 btu this was almost 2 years ago.
The 1000 nit display on this M1 Pro machine is almost worth the price alone. I picked up this same model when the dead stock Cal Poly deal was posted here in July and it has been a great portable DaVinci Resolve laptop.
5 year old machine, with the 5th version already released.
This is a heavily used, garage sale find. NOT NEW.
Who knows how long the battery is going to last? And since Apple is a green company, they intentional design all of their parts to NOT be user replaceable. So if one thing goes in the laptop, the entire thing is ewaste. That's "Green" in 2025.
And given these things are designed to die after their 3 year "Apple Cares" warranty expires (aka Planned Obsolescence)...you're really at risk of running out the ticking clock.
$300 would be a hard sell. $700 is not slick.
It's not hard to find a newer machine with the same meager amount of base ram (16gb in 2025--lmfao, that was barebones in 2015!) + a smaller internal drive (which encourages you to buy a much cheaper external SSD which you CAN reuse between machines) for about the same price or a tiny bit more -- but at least you'll have a real warranty.

Yes, i have a 1TB m1 macbook, but i also rarely use the storage compared to my PC laptop. (unfortunately apple really messes us up on the storage)

obviously you don't know the difference...
Difference is negligible for 90% of users.
I use a macbook air for portability / couch computer.
If you have power user needs you would likely have a pc with a dedicated gpu and much larger HD than 1TB.
If you are prioritizing storage over processing power by 3 generations, then i dont even know what to say...
