I've had it for a few months and really can't recommend it enough. I did a ton of FDM 3D printing from about 2013 to 2020, then focused on resin printing until buying this printer. So I was behind the times, but I've had perfect print quality from this unit with default settings, and the best feature is that you can load multiple spools of the same material, and when one runs out it will automatically switch to the next spool and keep printing. You just have to have them entered as the same color and material

There are tools to convert 3mf to STL, here is an example:https://imagetostl.com/convert/file/3mf/to/stl

How did you get such a smooth finish on those pieces? Do you own this 5 Series or a different model?
I printed it with the 5m .if you used to the old 3d printers u are in for a surprise how smoothly this prints even with a 0.4 nozzle ! These printers are blurring the line between resin and filament prints . Resin are great for really intricate designs and miniatures but for bigger prints it is a way to go ( no mess) i have an elegoo 16k resin for detailed prints too.

That's a $73 convenience if that's all you are doing with the multicolor. The replacement nozzles are a little cheaper. The longivety vs the 5M is still up for debate. Quality of the print is in favor of 5m but probably would be pretty similar if everything was tuned. Check out Aurora YouTube she just compares them both. I personally got the 5m with %30 CB. But I also knew I was only needing it for single color
Ah, I was under the impression that they were very similar printers but it seems there are quite a lot of differences. Multi-color printing would be a neat novelty, but multi-material printing is even more enticing. Thanks, for the tip, I'll have to do some more research.....

Anyone got a new code? Even RE14 for the $58 filament isn't working. I tried a bunch on the rd't megathread too and none of those worked. FYI -- I could use a $369+ coupon if I pick up a 10kg of HS-PETG. Thanks!

If you can cough up the extra $100ish with the current bambu sale, I think the bambu a1 combo is the better printer

So I did bite the bullet and get this like 3 weeks ago. I spent the week plus printing for the enclosure and the 1000x other mods you need. So you see once you get the enclosure and print it...you realize you need a top mount extension or the tubes rub. Then the bottom riser looks cool for extra storage but then the poop shoot mod will not work since you are now on a riser... So you go down the line of every mod you print you now created incomparability with another mod. Want LED lights, Camera and an exclosure...all add ons. All with 50x mods that conflict. Pure print quality...it is ok. The ABS stuff came out...barely acceptable. Then there is the smaller build plate..and I know its not THAT much smaller but you would be amazed since the rest of the world is basically 256...that you have to adjust down a lot. Which causes some issues in the final print. Not in the slicer but something changes that causes more failures. It is a decent printer but I think for the price most people would be better served with the Bambu A1. The XY vs Bed slinger .. well the quality differance is actually slight better on the A1 IMO. If you need advanced materials like ABS etc...neither of them are good even with the AD5x semi-enclosure. (Just not built well compared to Centari Carbon or P1S/P2S etc.) The speed differance between A1 and AD5x does exist but it is 10-15% and honestly because the this is a Bambu world many more prints are optimized for Bambu that fail without adjustment or dont look quite as good on the AD5x. Anyway...it is decent but I think most people are better served with the A1

I've already got an AD5M but I was able to duplicate the $208 deal too, plus another $20ish off from shopping sites. Couldn't say no.

Flashforge's website says that the warranty only applies if their machines are purchased from "authorized resellers". Can anyone confirm if this aliexpress seller is an authorized reseller?
Yes I have been sent replacement parts under warranty and the support team has been extremely helpful and fairly quick to reply.

I feel like buying one of these to accompany my bambu A1 without AMS. This seems like a cheap way to get into multi color printing, something I dont see myself doing alot so dont want to put in the $ for bambus systems.

How much of a headache would this be over my bambu?

Honestly... If your doing PLA I never had an issue with Matte or Basic with drying / storage etc. It guess it depends where you live as well... Silk I have had some issues with that required adjusting. If your doing PETG then you will need the Drybox, Dessicant and Drier.

This is what chatgpt told me, any reason to spend more for the Bambu Lab A1 vs this one?
I know NOTHING about this stuff, buying for my 10 yr old son who wants to make that Dragon!

Best "Just Works" Experience: Bambu Lab A1 Mini Combo

Why it's ideal: Auto-calibration, enclosed motion system, clean UI, and multi-color AMS Lite module that actually works.

Kid-friendly: Easy enough that he can start printing from his iPad or computer in 10 minutes.

Downside: ~$459 is a bigger spend.

Upside: You'll never need to troubleshoot much — it feels like an "Apple-level" consumer device.

➡️ Verdict: If budget allows, this is the most polished, future-proof, and frustration-free option.

🥈 Best Value Option (Your Deal): FlashForge AD5X

Why it's solid: For $237 shipped, you get a multi-color printer that's 80% of what the Bambu does, for half the price.

Kid-friendly: Comes mostly assembled, simple touchscreen interface, and FlashPrint slicer is straightforward.

Caveat:

Support may be slower since it's from AliExpress.

Slightly noisier, and print profiles might need minor tweaking for best results.

Upside: If he loses interest, it's not a painful sunk cost.

➡️ Verdict: Excellent value choice for a smart, curious kid — and good enough that you won't regret it.

⚙️ Alternative (More Advanced Path): Creality K1C

Why: Fast, CoreXY design, AI camera, flexible materials (even carbon-fiber nylon).

Downside: Not as polished; more adult hobbyist-level.

Verdict: Only consider if you want to tinker too.
Have to go look at Bambu blackfriday sales...the prices are down a lot. 379 for the A1 (not mini). I would never recommend the mini myself. For the minor price differance between mini and A1 you get a lot more build area.
