Wonder if you can pay a portion with youe credit card and auto debit the rest. E.g. $1 auto debit. Rest prepaid by credit card.

Would that be allowed?

"Under the new rule, any such one-time payment made with an ineligible method—whether for a portion or the total of the bill—will now disqualify the account from the AutoPay discount for that billing cycle."​

No clue, but that's how it worked before:

T-Mobile has ended a workaround for its autopay discount that allowed customers to pay with a credit card while keeping the discount. Starting October 24, 2025, any early, one-time payment made with an ineligible method like a credit card will cause a customer to lose their $5 per-line autopay discount for that billing cycle. To keep the discount, customers must have their autopay set up with a debit card or a direct bank account, and any early payments must be made with an eligible method.

How the loophole worked
Customers would set up a debit card or bank account for automatic payments to receive the autopay discount.
They would then manually pay their full bill ahead of the autopay date using a rewards credit card.
Because the bill was already paid, the automatic debit payment would not be processed, allowing the customer to collect credit card rewards and still get the T-Mobile discount.

How the new rule works
Any early, one-time payment made with a credit card, even for the full bill amount, will disqualify the account from receiving the discount for that cycle.
T-Mobile will send a text message informing customers they have lost the discount for that bill cycle.
The only way to keep the discount is to have a debit card or bank account set up for autopay and ensure any early payments are made using one of those eligible methods.

This is unfortunate. Now I will have to choose between the autopay discount and the free insurance that comes with my CC.

Decade long customer who moved initially from Sprint to T-Mobile due to the horrible customer service. Sprint service at least try to help with billing issues. T-Mobile guys promise everything under the sun and do nothing. This is horrible. Now T-Mobile is worst than original Sprint service. I am moving to Verizon (which works in my area) or US Mobile.

Their phone customer service is bad but their agents on Twitter(X) and Facebook are good. They helped with many things for me.

Such an odd choice on TMobile's part. For whatever small fraction of customers are putting in the effort to use this work-around, the ability to pay via CC must be really valuable to them. Much more valuable than the trivial 2% it actually costs TMobile to process credit cards.

There are plenty of other cell phone providers and MVNOs to choose from. TMobile is surely going to lose more business from this than the work-around costs them in processing fees.

That's is true for ATT already. Not sure about Verizon.
