Tiger 5.5-Cup Micom Rice Cooker and Warmer

Saw it on clearance at my local Costco but also saw it on sale at a bunch of other stores. Seems like an in store only clearance deal. Regular price $99.99. Sale price was $69.99 a few months ago. Now on clearance for $59.97.

Made in Japan quality, no brainer at $59.97 if you're in the market for a rice cooker.

In store SKU 1081890

Link is only for info, price is not eligible online. Photo attached of in store tag.

Terrible cooker. After a few days, rice gets soggy in the middle and crusty on the edges. Also the top cannot be removed for wash. Returned it to Costco and never looked back.

Made in Japan might as well be the brand name.
I only buy things that are only MADE IN JAPAN.

If the VIN number doesnt start with a J, I aint driving it. Cool

Quick Google search says yes:

"The Tiger 5.5-Cup Micom Rice Cooker and Warmer (models like JBV-S10U or JBV-A10U) uses a non-stick coated inner pot inside the cooker. The pot is made of aluminum with a fluorine-based non-stick coating, designed to prevent rice from sticking for easier cleanup and better heat conduction"

We've been happy with ours having bought it at around this price last month. It's our first rice cooker. It makes tasty rice and doesn't need to be closely supervised. We cook and refrigerate our rice so I can't speak to the effectiveness of the warming function. Haven't noticed the top of the unit needing much more than a wipe down after cooling but we've mainly made brown and yellow rice in ours.

these nonstick pots don't last long, same for Zojirushi. stainless steel is better choice, healthy and durable.

Yes, only the center steam vent condenser comes out of the hinged lid. This model is so obsolete that it doesn't even show among those discontinued on the Tiger site. You have to search it's model number. After returning this and getting the Zoji fuzzy logic, I realized that the Tiger also lacked cool pot handles for easy lifting while hot, the removable gasketed lid, the dimples on that flat lid designed to distribute drips of condensed steam evenly across the rice and leave less mess than the Tiger's conical lid (later Tiger models have removable dimpled lids), retractable power cord. The orange steaming tray from the Tiger fits and can be ordered.

I have this. I bought it at Costco for $75 two years ago. I cook rice everyday sometimes twice a day. I never had any problem with it. I guess those who complain the top cannot be cleaned are those who use it rarely.

It's the user not the product. Wash the rice separately in a stainless bowl and only use silicon spoons
