It's great to see the Adorama deals back! This blue looks so much better in person than the stock photos!

1) The Lake Placid Blue players are frequently around this price on and off. This is roughly what a Player model went for without being a "deal" several years ago, but prices are inflating and they haven't been accessible there for a while outside of sporadic deals / drops. Standard price for a Player II is significantly higher than $550 - you can still find Player Is, or used guitars or different models or open box or 1000 other options for less. But if you want a blue made in Mexico strat or tele with Fender on the headstock and a warranty, it's a good deal. If any of those are what's important to you is totally up to you.

2) Depends a lot on which Squier and a lot on sample variation. I've had a lot of Squiers and several Fenders from all different price points. One of the cheapest Squiers was among the best to play - I got it second hand so don't even recall what series it was from. May were total duds. The Classic Vibe series has been consistently good to me, and overall better / nicer to play than "Standard" or "Player" Fenders that I've owned. But I have had QC issues with some and had to send them back. And the hardware —CAN— feel cheaper. But if the volume knob feels a little cheaper but the guitar as a whole feels better and more inspiring to play, does it really matter? (This is an exaggeration to pick at a point of course - if you get a cheap crappy bridge or tuner that breaks or doesn't work right that's different..). But I've also played Mexican made Fenders that rule. My anecdotal experience is that around this price point, I think individual sample variation matters more than globally "Squier vs Fender".

Disclaimer: this is mostly rambling nonsense based on the guitars I've held and played and bought. It's a very small sample size relative to the number of guitars out there - I've never played a Player II. I did play many and purchase 2 Player Strats, the original Player Tele from this deal years ago, and a variety of classic Vibe and other Squiers. I originally sold my Player Tele in favor of a white Classic Vibe 50s Tele that I liked better, but it took 3 tries to get one that didn't have nut or neck issues. I don't have any of them any more though, variety is the spice of life 😵 💫 All of this to say - if you like your Squier you don't need this. It may or may not be a meaningful upgrade, it depends what you're looking for. But if you want a Player II Fender, this is a decent deal.

bought it last time they had a deal. nice color, very pleasant neck finish. Shipped a little late but they had holidays, so processing took a few days but then it arrived within a few days from TN, Chattanooga. Sound and plays well on Boss Mini X Smilie

One of my favorite guitars (which I reach out for and play on the regular) is a Deluxe Roadhouse Strat. I picked it up around 10 years ago for around 550 dollars. No sale. I fell in love with it when I played one at GC. Made in Mexico. Perfect guitar. I'm not a professional player but been playing guitar since I was 14 (that's a long time) so I play because I'm in love with it. I love music.

Made in Mexico or Made wherever. Just fall in love with it! Buy this guitar or buy a FireFly (I have one of those too and it's one sweet guitar) or buy whatever other guitar you can afford and just play the damn thing! Play it! Learn to work on it. Let those fingers find the music and your own style. Fall in love with it! It doesn't matter really ... a Strat or a Tele ... If you're starting, FALL IN LOVE WITH IT! This guitar deal here is great. The color is sweet. The pickups are nice. Neck is comfortable for a beginner. Just fall in love! Let the music and the sound of your first well played chords, take you away! I promise, you will never be the same and you will never forget it! But you've gotta love it because without it, it's all a chore.

And this guitar here is Made in Ensenada. That's somewhere between Elven realms of Lothlórien and the Woodland Realm. It's magic. Always is!

New? this 15W monoprice is pretty nice: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=611815 as it sounds really good and has a fx loop.
Or go find any used 15W fender tube amp on craigslist or fb. Pro junior or Blues junior are popular choices.
