I own 10+ HOKA shoes and only reason to own them is for their 'X-Wide' size. If not I would not buy them over oher brands. (They look ugly for sure) Another good alternative to HOKA X-wide is NB 1080 X-wide. Period.

I tried Nb 1080's and they were more comfortable than brooks or hokas

I buy them for the wide based footprint for hiking on rocks where traditional hiking "boots" have narrow soles below the heels and lead to twisted ankles. These prevent that and provide a nice cushion for speed walking the trails and work well. Nobody cares how ugly they are on the trails either haha
