That just points to inconsistencies in quality. One of the reviewers like the shirt he bought in early 2024 so he bought another one January 2025 and he said the new shirt was larger and 'a lot thinner.' The reviewer who got the sunburn bought his shirt late 2024. Most of the positive reviews from people who actually wore them out in the sun all day were from pre-2024. It's entirely possible that they used to be thick enough to justify the rating but aren't anymore. Seems like a reasonable thing to imagine happening from a no-name brand shirt company selling $8 shirts on amazon. Not sure how accurate camelcamelcamel is but apparently these shirts used to be $22. Now the fake 'regular price' is $18 after years of inflation and fresh tariffs. Just saying...

I have the long sleeve version w/o the hood and have yet to be burned. 1-6+ hours in the Florida sun and I'm fine. No sunscreen. Only parts of me that get burned are the ones that aren't covered, usually my hands. Mainly use them for yard work so only out in the sun for about 2 hours. W/O being covered I'm burned in 30 minutes.

Mine were ordered June 25th and Oct 9 of 2024 for reference since other comments talk about when people might have purchased when reviewing.

I prefer darker colors for hiding stains, but I think lighter colors keep me slightly cooler. Either way I'm always baking in the Florida sun. I avoid the sun, it's too bright. I've enjoyed working nights for 15-20 years.

I got these in blue and black, no thumb hole, a couple of months ago to do yard work in. Awesome for the price and I didn't manage to get any sunburn while working in direct sunlight day in day out. Had the hood up most of the time and even wore the black one on a 90*F day and survived. I would have been a swamped mess in a normal black short sleeve shirt, because that's what I was doing before I bought these. Breathability is great but I can still get them completely waterlogged in my high humidity area.

Anyway, got these primarily to avoid mosquito bites. That part didn't work out too great, still get bit through the material... but certainly less. This land is cursed.

Get the darker colors if you want better sun protection.

Like it that it is the No-thumb
But then, where do you put your thumbs... tucked away in the sleeve somewhere, wishing they had a hole to peek out at the world through, instead of sitting around in the dark, all alone, while the hands and head get to have all the fun?

Of course on bigger sizes only. Again the responsible man gets screwed and left carrying the rest

Napolean complex refers to height. This sizing refers width. It's a pity there's no moderation of the uneducated yet so confident
Actually, as your height goes up, so does your size. Has nothing to do with body fat. Small and medium sized shirts are typically children's clothing to those 6'4" and 245 with a 10% body fat. Someone wearing small or medium would be hard pressed to "carry" that person anywhere. But the 6'4" 245 individual could likely scoop up the little person and give them a piggy back ride 🐷

Yeah no drawstrings so it just loosely flops on your head and easily slips off since it's soft and silky like. I have the thumb version of these. I think they're great for wearing around the house as they're really comfortable. I wouldn't wear them out or do yardwork in them though, they are really thin and seem like they would snag on things very easily
I think the hood or hoodie aspect is more to protect your head, neck, and face from sun exposure than it is to keep you warm. It's less likely to make sense to those whose skin doesn't burn in the sun, but the SPF rating and hood/thumbhole make more sense if your skin can get burned when you're sitting in the shade and have to cover every inch of it or look like a California Raisin in your 50's.

The missing variable is the amount of melanin the person has. For example, being a redhead, without protection (clothing or sunblock), will get a sunburn in 20 minutes. I never tan. My brother, who has dark hair and far darker skin, can go outside for hours and hours and get a tan.
Ditto. People that tan often don't get how much of a hassle it is for those who don't. Unless they have a family member or a partner or someone close that burns in the moonlight. But to put it simply, it's like a food allergy, but to the sun. 😁
