Just note that the Retroid Pocket G2 is out and is basically the same device but with a better processor for $199 and other color options.

The Pocket 6 is even better but not out until January 2026 for $209 and the option on where you want the dpad (some prefer dpad below the joystick for ps2 and newer games)

Not dissing this in anyway, as they look truly awesome, but for $80 you can get a tracfone android device with similar specs and for for $30 connect a usb-c controller gamesir thingy. I guess this comes preloaded with retroarch and other software and games?

Amen, if you wanted something now the Pocket G2 is supposed to be "twice" the power for $19 more.

FWIW, those USB bolt on controllers are actually pretty decent but IMO they are for people who just can't cope with having two devices (well they still have two actually, their phone and the controller). I personally could not see purposely spending 60+% of the money of a purpose built device just to do NOTHING even close to as well. Screen size vs ratios, speakers, UI, ergonomics, controls, etc.

But if you had a second phone sitting around unused, I can see the logic of spending $30 vs $180. Especially if you are just dipping your toes into the concept of emulation.

anyone have an opinion on the Atari Gamestation Go? Like will it be able to do a lot of this retroid stuff?

Asking because it looks like a awesome device.

Thanks

Do tarrifs impact this? If I want to buy either this or the rp6, would it get tarriffed at the border?

Russ from Retro Game Corp just did a full review and it looks like a great step up in terms of performance. You can run most PS2 games at a 3x+ upscale and switch games in docked mode at full speed.

It ships from USA so no, anything tariff-related is already built in.

I'd probably buy it if I liked the ergonomics better. I assume it is similar-ish to the 4 Pro which I personally hated. Always felt like it was too long and skinny and I almost dropped it countless times trying to hit the shoulder buttons. I could have bought the grip thingy but that ruins (IMO) the portability and still has the same problem when you need to be portable. Currently happy with the RG476H even if it is a bit less powerful than the 4 Pro, and probably a million times weaker than the Pocket G2. That being said, if you like the ergos, the G2 and 6 are a far better price to performance ratio.

BTW, did you grab a snack and a drink?

The grips are built in and it feels like one solid device. Loving mines!

Gamestation Go, despite being around the same price, is not comparable to the Retroid in capability. It has a weaker CPU, uses a custom Linux distro, and supports fewer platforms. It's also manufactured by a company that has a history of making gimmick devices rather than solid handhelds. Those controls won't translate well to any games newer than the SNES, I think.
If you really love Atari, the Gamestation Go is laser targeted at you, and I'm sure it's great at reproducing some of the feeling of playing those games for the first time. If you're just looking for a versatile handheld, though, you can do much better.
