Thanks! Grabbed! Very YMMV here, but looks like I had an Amex promotion to use a minimum of 714 MR points ($5) to get an additional $60 off. So check if you have that offer too.

Thoughts on this one? Looking to get into the hobby
It's a very fast RC car. Even if you've used other RC cars before, this is nothing like them if you decide to get into the 3S batteries (which you should). In terms of driving, the car is so fast that it will pop a wheelie almost instantly if you give it full throttle. It's cool but it makes it difficult to control. I recommend using the adjustments on the RC when you're starting off to avoid destroying your car (and property). I don't recommend using this in your neighborhood because the urge to showoff and floor it can very easily turn into an expensive mistake. That being said, when used responsibly, it's an incredible car at this price.
I've completely trashed mine, but our local hobby shop had the replacement parts to fix it, which was great. I bought several pieces, including the frame itself, and spent about $60 total in parts. The repair process was time consuming but was a ton of fun to do on my own.
Something I wish I had known before purchasing my first car is how slow the stock charger is. If you enjoy the hobby, then you should definitely invest in a better charger and extra batteries. I purchased several off-brand 3S batteries off Amazon and they've never given me issues, but maybe others have better feedback here. I also purchased a Venom Power Pro Duo charger, which set me back about $120, but it reduced charging times drastically.

100% this.
imagine a 10lb (with battery) RC car going 60mph hitting a kid, a car or a fence. these arent the tyco or nikko things we had when we were kids.
but they are super fun.
i suggest grabbing a couple of these 3s 120c batteries: CNHL 3S Lipo Battery 6600mAh Hard Case 120C 11.1V RC Battery with EC5 Plug for 1/8 1/10 RC Car Truck Buggy Boat (2 Packs)
and this charger: Gens Ace Lipo Battery Charger urlhasbeenblocked D300 G-Tech Series Smart Dual Lipo Charger 16A AC 300W DC 700W Lipo Charge(White)

Anyone got an opinion on this one vs the big truck v4 @ $311?
It seems the big truck might be more capable of doing more things.. is it worth it , especially since I want my kid to have fun with it. Not working about if she grass is too high etc
It is a fun and addictive hobby. And if you happen to have a 3d printer you can find models of a lot of the parts online too. I would recommend starting with a 2s battery or throttling it down if you haven't ever used one. And whatever you do, when you first try it, avoid every urge to jam the throttle to full power. Even if it's a wide open empty parking lot. The slightest turn can cause it to flip. Get comfortable with the controls first.
As others have said extra batteries and faster charger, preferably one that can balance too, is a must. Get hard shell packs of you can. Better protected if you do wreck it.

The big truck is going to be more stable & controllable because of its longer wheel base. It also has a nicer, more detailed body that will mess up more easily when bashed. The vorteks will pop wheelies effortlessly and will be easier to do tricks with. If this is you first serious RC purchase, I'd go with the big truck.
