It's not so much a matter of whether you game (this laptop isn't good for gaming, regardless of the display), it really just depends on how much you care about color quality. Other than artistic work that requires accurate color display, it's not going to actually hinder you from using the laptop or anything. I don't imagine most people would be bothered if they're mostly using this for typical office work.

In my case, part of my use for this laptop would have been streaming movies/TV and I'm used to a better quality display, so it would bug me.

Can we stop with this soldered ram nonsense. 99% of laptops for home use will be soldered. Unless you are getting a gaming laptop or an ultrabook, assume it will be soldered.

I'm sensitive to color and the 45% NTSC reminds me of the crappy HP/Dell screens that my work computers have which gives washed out colors compared to the 100% coverage.

I think that is his point - many of the screens you are accustomed are better than 45%NTSC, and thus in direct comparison this laptop will not look favorable
