LOL! These are NOT short scale, which is 30" scale. These are below that at 28.6" scale, so longer than any normal guitar (Strat, Tele, etc.) and thus OBVIOUSLY not to small for an adult. I'm over 50, overweight, and in spite of owning 6 basses including a full scale fretless Jaco bass, the Ibanez Mikro is my go to bass that I play virtually everyday. I LAUGH at the fools who lug around 10 pound basses needlessly. Because I know how to use pedals and my amp, I can get any sound out of it that I want without the pain or strain of the needlessly large basses from Fender or Squier (which I own four of). It is an accident of history that Leo Fender made his bass in consultation with a dude who was 6 foot 4 and played sitting down in a classical guitar style. Electric basses never should have been 34 inch scale, which is crazy.

The Mikro is best for kids and adults. Anyone who says otherwise has no experience with them whatsoever.

And this is a GREAT deal! I got mine as a customer return to Guitar Center for $139 8 years ago. Don't hesitate to get one if you are on the fence. They are FAR better than the similarly sized Squier Mini Precision. And I have TI flatwounds on mine. That's how much I think of this bass.

Is this a good bass for beginners? I've been wanting to pick up bass for a while, but don't want to spend a ton if i end up not sticking with it. But also want something i can keep using for a while if I do get into it

Don't see the future but it was $139 or even $129 before from musiciansfriend and Adorama, got posted here as well.

It doesn't really matter today, also the MSRP was less than $200 but now $220 I think.

They are short scale, so might be too small for an adult. Great for kids to learn on or if you specifically want a short scale bass. Squier makes some solid low cost full sized basses, if that's what you're looking for.

Look around in your area for music instrument rentals. Lots of instrument rental places will do rent to own. So, you can pick one out you like and pay a rental fee for a few month(+/-) and see if it's somethin you like, risk free. If you don't stick with it, you're only out however many months rental fee. It's reasonable. My first bass was a $1400 acoustic I did exactly what I described, in terms of renting, and choose to buy it out. I got a really nice bass, rental fee was like $24 a month. When I decided to keep it, I just paid off the balance. Still have it!
When you first start learning, you make a lot of progress quickly and that is enough to keep you interested/motivated. The difficulty comes like a year into your learning journey, progress is still being made, it just feels slower as you take on refining your techniques and developing a play style. You just have to grind through it.

I mean, I've owned basses ranging from $100 to $4000, including two Mikros, but okay. Personally, I find them to feel like toys compared to my other basses to me, but if you like it, that's awesome. I don't find that they sound anywhere near as good as a full scale bass, but they are AWESOME for learning on. I love the Mikro series and I have both a guitar and bass that my kids play and enjoy.

Yep, I picked one of these up for under $100 a few years back. Thanks to inflation, dollar devaluation, and tariffs, we're taking a beating on most anything that isn't made in country.

My daughter learned on a Mikro, both 4 string and the 5 string version. They are fantastic bass guitars for the price. I swapped out the stock PJ's on the 4 string to Seymour Duncan's. And swapped out the 5 string J pickups to Bartolinis… put flats on both as she preferred those. They sound "bigger" than their size.

She later moved on to a 30" scale Birdsong… 4 string and 5 string versions. Fretted and fretless 4's and fretted 5's. If you're looking for a more premium short scale bass, check them out.

Now she plays a Taylor acoustic guitar.

Years ago these Mikros would go on sale for $129 for a 4 string and $149 for a 5. These are killer bass guitars.
