That taxes are calculated in base of the full price cellphone?

So the cost of the service is $185. The total is $260-280. When I purchased one in store from Walmart on the Straight Talk promo the total tax was $35.05. So the rest, roughly $40 to $60 is the activation fee? Also, the WM deal does not require a port in or ID verification but it does require adding an extra month of service. A little more expensive but less hassle than going into a Total wireless store. I say this from experience.
Walmart require 4 months of service then?

No, only a second. Total cost for the phone and 2 mo service was $324.93. $289.05 for the phone and one month of Silver required for the promo plus $35.88 the one month of Bronze to make up the 60 days.

Are Total Wireless locations independently owned? Do they make less money if you get this deal rather than paying more for the same phone? I only ask because the store I went to didn't have any in stock but said they could give the phone from an another local location. He said it would be around $350, and when I asked him to break it down, we realized he was charging an activation fee that went away with the port in. However, at this point, he spoke to his manager and came back to tell us the other store didn't actually have it in stock after all. Seemed kind of coincidental this happened right after the total price dropped. Is this just me overthinking it? He said he's expecting more in on Monday and would call me.
Total wireless stores are independently owned. Don't know abou the money part. Never had a good experience at either of the stores I've been to. Prices differed for the same deals I checked between the two locations. Seems like they make up their own charges/fees. I've not been back to either in about a year and a half.

i have had pretty bad experience. I made a google voice number, paid to be unlocked ,went to store and bought their overpriced 65/month for 3 months plan+activation+ taxes for total of $280
It took a while for them to activate and I had to leave on promise that they will call me once its done
Lo and behold - seems like Total flagged it for fake portin as its new GV number and wouldnt give store the credit. So the store wants me to pay another $299 for the phone
Its a mess - any advice on how to get my money back? I feel sorry for the store owner but I dont think i did any fraud
Does anyone know how long a Google Voice number needs to exist for to not be considered "new"/fake? Thanks.

How would this work at Walmart? Buy the phone and activate for 3 months (buy 3*$65plan?) and the price of the phone automatically becomes $0? I've never bought total wireless before and the associate at Walmart seems clueless. Tia

It doesn't work at Walmart. This deal is at Total Wireless stores only.
