I'll be waiting to see what people say on this & if I should jump on the deal or not...

This would be most attractive for zwift or other virtual training system. You can ride or race with your power output, and the resistance changes with the slope of the virtual world.
If not doing zwift stuff, then the benefit is indoor training with power meter.
Your indoor workout bike might have one(or you can install one). If you install your own power meter, you can also zwift. Gotta say though without automatic resistance change, it's kind of boring.

Also, the customer service experience. Maybe I was lucky but I was having problems with the cadence readings. I contacted customer support and they had me run through a few tests and determined that the trainer was bad. This was a single initial email experience. Something I have rarely experienced lately with any product you purchase. They sent a shipping label, I packed it up in the original box and shipped out on Monday. I got a new one back on Friday. As soon as their tracking sees that the trainer is on the way back they send you the replacement. They initially said it would be a refurbished one , I requested a new one and they said a new one would be shipped. I purchased the original one without a cassette and the replacement came with a cassette, another plus.
I also had an old stationary bike which required a subscription to get a recording. I didn't want to pay for that so there was no recorded data with the bike. The bike was also making a knocking noise. I cut it up and threw it away. This trainer combined with a Garmin Edge computer has a lot more data available than my stationary bike. One critical data is the power data. I also use an old bike with the trainer. I am not willing to mount and unmount the bike to use it between indoor and outdoor. So, asking the difference between a stationary and this trainer, there is more to consider than just purchasing this trainer. You need another bike or two but a bike computer may not be needed since you could probably do the same with a phone or tablet.
There are tons of other ways to use the smart trainer, ranging from other subscription services to connecting to Garmin head units for workouts to some kind of combination.
If you don't use Zwift just put on an old cassette and go.
