Port main number to Google Voice. Then it doesn't matter which plan/number you use any more

Just realized a few others already said the same thing so I'll just expand a little further according to my experience with GV for the last 7-8 years:
-call forwarding is seamless.
-text msg (sms) goes to gv app.
-WhatsApp, telegram accounts associated with this number stay the same, no issue.
-only issues is with 2FA from some banks/institutions (maybe 20%-not a huge number) but since you still have a normal mint number albeit changing, switching just a few of these 2FA's is quick 1hour work
Agreed, just what was said!

FYI in case you didn't notice, Mint's Unlimited plan limits video streaming to 480p. Their non-unlimited plans don't have this limitation.
Why would you video stream on your phone? I would hate to have to watch Netflix or something like that on a small screen. I've watched youtube and never had problems with video quality..

I purchased 2 plans last year same time. For my one mint plan was expiring in 3 days, it showed up the same $180 as renewal price. But for the other number which is expiring in 10 days, it is showing $240 as renewal price.

What a fraud. It's not $180 a year. All the other posters are correct. They tack on a bunch of taxes and fees:

I did the research during my trial run and this seems to be a consistent story for most people that have subscribed to Visible's cheapest plan. I tested the plan inside of my house and in public and the data speeds were poor in every circumstance I tried.
I also came from a Verizon family plan so I know what kind of speeds I should be getting at my home address and it was nowhere close to the same.
You're right in that in can vary per city but it would seem Visible is not a good choice in big city areas. I'm in California.
Do you have Visible's low-tier plan and can attest otherwise?
I'm in CA and switched from visible to mint...long ago.

All great reasons to go to VISIBLE.

BUT... I feel...

Mint has AMAZING customer service.
Data speeds ARE THE SAME as premium carriers
Never had an issue with network congestion
Like saving money and don't need or want a store.
Love their customer service including their support with SIM swapping.

Basically, I highly recommend THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT THAT GUY SAID.
I couldn't convince a friend of that. He was stuck on going the easy route into a store, and delusional saying they are all priced the same. I saved thousands a year vs his concepts.

Not an option for those of us who want to use iMessage, unfortunately.

Just a warning, once you're an existing customer Mint Mobile will treat you like dog****.
Go to a store and pay the most. All discount sellers connect you to call centers. No coddling. I've used them for years and didn't have problems with the service or call centers.

Equivalent to Visible+ is Total 5G+, which you can get for $30/month on BYOD.

T-Mobile performs poorly on QCI7 (Mint and every other T-Mobile MVNO) when it's overcrowded, especially in places like Costco or a stadium. However, T-Mobile has the best raw download speeds when it's not congested. One reason for such performance is that almost all name-brand T-Mobile's own plans run on QCI6, as does Google Fi. So, every T-Mobile MVNO will have a bad time (except Google Fi) when congested.

Only a select few Verizon postpaid plans run on QCI7. All other MVNOs (Visible+, Visible+ Pro, Total 5G, 5G+, Spectrum) and Verizon Wireless run on QCI8. Then, at QCI9, all other deprioritized plans, like Visible Base, Total Base, and select US Mobile Warp, are found.
Ah, explains why i can't eve WhatsApp my wife which Costco line I'm in (US Mobile Warp)

I called in to Mint asking about current customer deals to keep me around, it was so funny. She kept upping the offers but ended at 4 months free for 12 months of unlimited. Outside of the farkery of trying to trick Mint about being a new customer, is that usually the best you can do as a current customer? I've heard stories about current customers getting the new customer offer
I think she said something like this to me, then I login the website and see that is the standard discount of prepaid 1 year over month to month. Did you feel you got a good deal from her 😁

Bought a new 3 month plan just a couple of weeks ago. This deal came out just a week later. Still on the first month. Wondering if I should give mint a call to see if I can avail of this.
Be careful, usually the agents can't stack prepaid months. I end up losing part of what I paid for so just calculate that into the possible gains. They don't understand the concept until you've lost weeks and months then explain that to them, and they are Uh oh Oh and can't resolve it.

Is port in required?

So they use T-Mobile network? That seems to be the only good option for my home area.

People don't seem to care... there is a large cost for many people to feel comfortable in the mind. That is the issue I believe.

But for me... it is not so much trying to convince a friend it is like finding a person who is with Verizon or TMobile who is not paying for their phone on a monthly basis.

But right now, I think I am stuck on Visible because I want my $15.00 off my FIos internet bill each month.

But, I may switch back to Mint... for a deal that is good enough. But it is practically a wash for me. So, lets say I pay $30/month with Visible and get $15 off my fios bill... net cost about $15/month... and if I jump ship to Mint, I may get service for $15 a month for a year but I loose $15 a month for my Fios bill.

And I really like having unlimited hotspot... I have actually used this. But Mint just upped their 10GB to 20GB of hotspot a month.
