There are advantages to doing this with ATT instead of Verizon.

1. After buying the phone in Walmart, you can pay off phone via ATT online chat. For Verizon you have to go to a store.
2. ATT activation fee can be voided instantly from the bill by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" when the bill arrives even if it's more than 3 days from activation which will mostly happen if you ship it to your house.

3. ATT version can be instantly unlocked using eSIM swap. It's YMMV but for most people it works if you follow the instructions below and do the transfer of the eSIM properly from iPhone to another phone.
4. Even if the eSIM swap does not work I have seen some getting the phone unlocked by chatting with CS once the phone is paid off. That also is YMMV

Sim swap instructions

1. There are two timelines for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. But as mentioned earlier that fee can be voided instantly by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" in the bill even after 3 days.

2. You can use SIM swap method method to unlock the device.

3. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the eSIM. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then transfer the eSIM to another unlocked phone. Make sure you are transferring the eSIM without making a new one so no ATT involvement. Reboot the other phone, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.

4. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ (in incognito mode) and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of iPhone nd submit an unlock request using a different email, phone number, name etc not associated with the ATT account.

5. Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.

6. ONLY CANCEL THE LINE AFTER YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE PHONE. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT ANYMORE.

Edit: Forgot to mention you will have to try the SIM swap roughly 24 hours after paying off the phone. The unlock portal syncs with the billing system every night or so.

Not started yet. I don't like gc promotion because you have to pay tax on the full amount.

Thank you for posting this deal! Is the following correct?

1. Order the iPhone 16 online to take part of this deal
2. Once phone is delivered, activate the phone and place a test call
3. Call Verizon or log into your Verizon account to pay off the phone and cancel your service within 3 days of activation
4. Receive the $500 walmart gift card
5. iPhone is unlocked after 60 days despite not paying for a Verizon plan at all

Shall I ask for line close or device pay off
Device pay off first.
Then call again to close the line.

I asked the rep he said activation fee will be removed and the rest will be prorated by day. On the phone.

also, technically my phone was active from 11/15 since that was the day I ordered it. I asked specifically if it will be removed, he said he will. So I am hoping it does go away.

I got the phone from Verizon and activated it. I tried to payoff the device, but could not succeed. I was running out of time and don't want to go beyond 3 days and incur activation fess. So, went ahead and cancelled the line.
Now the line is cancelled.
What next?

Also, FWIW, I activated phone on 11/18 and placed a call to confirm (same day I received phone via mail), however per Verizon site it says activation was on 11/15.
The line is activated when the phone ships out, phone activation and line activations are two different things. For cancelling insist on terminating the line right away, this is not a regular cancellation, this is buyers remorse and check if the line is indeed disconnected .

Hi team I tried Verizon option to pay off the device and not successful as of now tried web chat called 611 and also visited Verizon businesses store so far 16 hrs after opening. Opted number without porting. Can someone suggest how to proceed. Should I wait for 1day or ask for line closure.
Porting out of verizon is your last option. The final bill then should have the payoff amount.

I have the same question as the phone can't arrive in less than 3 days. I ordered on Sunday, and they activated the line on Tuesday. The phone will be delivered on Saturday. I wonder how to do a SIM swap or port out if you do not have the phone in hand?
You need the phone in hand but as I mentioned before for ATT activation fee can be voided immediately by "disputing the fee" in the bill even after 3 days. We would have to cancel the line with 14 days though.

for the online orders they say 21 days to receive the GC, does it really take that long? It seems ATT is advantageous, seems they are more lenient on canceling the activation fee within 14 days and phone can be unlocked right away whether bought in store or online. someone can correct me if this wrong.

Between 16 plus and 16 Pro, which one would you pick? I think plus is bigger in size and Pro gets 500GC whereas plus gets $300GC.

It was an ordeal for a day or two. I got the phone in store, paid full but would not receive the GC, Walmart store wouldnt take it back, walmart customer support is of no help, ATT store wouldnt do a return, the folks who sold me all raised their hands. Finally spoke to someone in ATT Loyalty department and they created a return shipping label. Hope they pay me off 100% what I paid since the service and phone was canceled in 2-3 days. The receipt is from Walmart and not sure how ATT would refund it back on my CC. Hope all goes well from here on. Be careful folks, the terms does say installment and it depends on how they interprete it. I did not receive the GC even after 3-4 days.

I was able to request unlocking from AT&T. only issue is it takes more than 3 total days as they can request unlock after 48hrs of payoff time and unlock through CS takes 24hrs as per them

I would recommend not paying anything as down-payment to Walmart... I did full installment and I got GC in couple of mins after purchasing. Additionally, it shows up on Walmart rep tablet where they will send $500 GC
