11/26/2025 10:28am PST Update: This is now limited to ONE transaction, with 20% rewards back up to $1,250. Paypal email memo notes that the promotion for spend on multiple transactions prior to the notification will be honored.
Walmart:
1) you have to make sure Paypal is not a saved method of payment in your wallet. If so, go into your account and remove it
2) When you are in checkout, uncheck the box that says Remember Paypal as a payment option.

The Pay in 4 will reject you if you try and back in and out of a transaction that's in the flow of a checkout process (such as maybe just returning to your cart or hitting the back button during the checkout flow). Try not to do that next time if you did that. Just remember the Seinfeld episode with the Soup Nazi where everybody had to step exactly to the left when approaching the counter and put their arm forward very deliberately to the cashier with their money, etc. in order not to get thrown out of the store. It's like the same way for these Pay In 4 transactions.

Here is what the PayPal Rewards Program terms generally state regarding returns and refunds:
* Proportional Reduction: If you return all or part of your purchase or receive a refund, the number of points you received on that purchase will be reduced based on the new subtotal of the eligible items.
* No Points on Refunds: You will not earn points for any amount that you return or receive a full refund on.

Imagine you bought three items in one transaction totaling $100 and earned 100 points (assuming a 1 point per $1 rate).
* If you return one item worth $20, the remaining purchase is $80.
* PayPal is likely to claw back the points earned on the returned amount, which would be 20 points.
* Your point total for that transaction would be reduced from 100 to 80 points.
