Avoid Aliexpress via Paypal. All, yes ALL, transactions are being processed by Paypal as cash advance! Resulting in Credit Card Issuer inflicting a cash advance transaction fee + accrual of daily interest as high as 28% APR! No way to resolve and all three companies (CC, AE & Paypal) will circle jerk the finger pointing of who is responsible with no solution. Reddit is exploding with many customers getting hit with these fees in the tune of 10's and even 100's of dollars. Avoid!!!

Paying the balance early in Pay Monthly won't violate the terms.

Remove your PayPal account from eBay payment first. Now after making a purchase, it will redirect you to PayPal, pick 'pay in 4' from there.

"Everyone" doesn't. Just the ones who haven't read. I've pointed this out more than once:https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=180388588&postcount=1402And it's clearly in the terms.
Has anyone confirmed it worked with Pay Monthly? I saw this offer on PayPal Instagram and the ads show 20% when using Pay in 4. They mentioned in 2 different ads both related to Pay in 4.

Yes, you can search. I've used it a few times here, but I also carefully read the full terms in context and had a couple AI engines analyze as well, confirming my interpretation is correct.

I think people are avoiding Pay in Monthly because it ads interest. I started to use it once, then bailed, then used Pay in Monthly for my next 5 (3 successful and 2 immediately canceled by Walmart due to their automatic security system, for some reason).

I was already denied. That's what I said in my message you replied to - I was denied for unusual activity right after the Walmart cancellations on another attempt. But last time that happened, Pay in 4 appeared the next day. The difference this time, is that those pending ones (that were canceled) are still showing pending now 17 1/2 hours after they were immediately canceled and for about $1000 in purchases vs. a small canceled purchase last time that was pending. Last time, someone at Paypal (phone support) cleared the pending Walmart one off. So, I might try to reach out to them again to remove these that are still there.
It won't matter. I also had the pending removed. Pay in 4 showed up again but denied again for unusual activity. It appeared again in a few days, unusual activity. It's automated and the support agents won't or can't do anything. It sucks because not just this deal, but sometimes I want to use the feature.

In the same boat. Were you able to resolve this?
I waited until the following day and Pay in 4 returned. At that point I didn't have to worry about Pay Monthly. Maybe give it some time and see if the same happens with you.

I now am pennies away from $1250. But $400 of it is in gift cards. All the points are still pending. I don't know whether I should do another $400 and hope that would qualify for 20% if the prior $400 is capped lower.

Chat gpt's interpretation of the reward terms

"How the 20% PayPal Offer Works (Based on What You Posted)

✔ You CAN have multiple transactions.

The wording says:

> "Eligible Participants will earn Points equivalent to 20% cash back on one or more Eligible Purchases up to $1,250 spent."

The phrase "one or more Eligible Purchases" means multiple transactions are allowed, and each can earn 20% as long as you haven't hit the total cap yet.

---

✅ But there IS a TOTAL cap — not per transaction

It very clearly sets a maximum of $1,250 spent during the special 20% offer period.

Meaning:

✔ You can get 20% cash back on:

One $1,250 purchase
OR

Five $250 purchases
OR

Ten $125 purchases
OR

ANY combination of purchases…

❌ But once your total spending hits $1,250, the 20% cashback stops.

---

🔍 Why this is the correct interpretation

The operative phrase:

> "Up to $1,250 spent."

If it were per transaction, PayPal would phrase it like:

"per transaction"

"per qualifying purchase"

"limit applies to each purchase"

But the text does not say that.

Instead, it treats $1,250 spent as a total pool for the offer period."

I ran it through AI, and it said:

No, paying off a PayPal "Pay Later" balance using a Chase Freedom credit card is not likely to earn 5% cash back.

This is because the payment to settle a "Pay Later" balance is considered a loan repayment or a cash advance, not a purchase of goods or services through PayPal. Chase specifically excludes payments to short-term installment loan providers (like Klarna or AfterPay) from earning bonus rewards, and user data points indicate Chase and Capital One cards are generally excluded as funding sources for PayPal Pay in 4 repayments.

The 5% cash back is intended for actual purchases where PayPal acts as the payment processor for a merchant, such as buying an item online and selecting PayPal as the payment method at checkout, with the Chase card as the funding source for that initial transaction
Can you do anything besides run terms and conditions through ChatGPT? I swear, that's all I've seen you do in this thread.

I had used this successfully on two deals in one day. That was the limit I was allowed. I also did the pay monthly deal, which was successful, but I haven't been able to use the pay monthly option again despite having paid off the pay monthly.

What really screwed me, though, was Staples. I had ordered a Nintendo Switch 2 through them yesterday, and the order went through using the pay in 4. However, a half hour later, Staples canceled the order for reasons unknown to me. The email said they needed more information, but I don't know what that is supposed to mean. That not only ruined that deal, but I wasn't able to use pay in 4 the rest of the day yesterday, and the pending charge will linger in the account making it seem as though there is a loan there that does not exist for who knows how long.

Today, I was excited to see that the pay in 4 option was back, so I tried ordering the Switch elsewhere, but during checkout I decided to change credit cards because one of my cards offers extended warranties. This pay in 4 was denied because, I guess, switching which credit card would take the payments made me sus all of a sudden despite both cards having been in my paypal account forever and their system allowing the option to switch. Now, who knows if I'll be able to use this again. If Staples had not canceled my order, life would be great. Now, I'm deeply irritated that I likely won't be able to get a decent deal on the Switch 2.

I had immediately paid off the monthly plan and the two pay in 4s that I had previously used, but I can't use the monthly plan anymore because I was denied on a second try due to having one already open, despite, again, it being paid off, and now I've been denied on the pay in 4 because I switched credit cards during the process. I have excellent credit and no balances on Paypal, but I guess I'm still a bum. No idea if either option will open up for me again before this deal has run its course, but for now I get to wallow in both my extreme irritation at Staples and my annoyance at myself for having the stupidity to switch cards mid transaction even though that shouldn't have been a problem.
Did your Pay in 4 come back today?

No, Pay in 4 is limited to $1500 per purchase.

And NO, you are NOT capped at $250 rewards on this special promotion for the period. That is a PER purchase limit. See my post along with AI analysis.
That is what I was talking about. I was saying on the one purchase you'd be capped at the $250. I didn't realize you can't even buy anything that costs over $1500 at all, though. That would make it much trickier to get the most out of the promo.

because it states in the term that any purchase from $30-1500. so it is limited to $1500. I think $250 is not that total cap for each person. theoretically, you can get multiple $250 but base on how much credit that PayPal approved for you. I got $2000.

Also, I think Pay in 4 is a soft credit check and Pay Monthly later may be a hard credit check
