Milwaukee's M18 track saw stands out as a cordless cutting system that feels close to a table saw for sheet goods and long cuts. It has strong runtime, with dozens of cuts on a 6.0Ah high output battery and even 3.0Ah batteries cutting without issue. The saw shares track compatibility with Makita and some third party rails, and the riving knife and single battery setup give it an edge over the Makita version. The main drawbacks are the two piece track seam, which can snag or leave a slight curve, and the need to sort out battery compatibility or adapters.
Common Questions (5)
The hack can reportedly be used to get just the track saw for about $307, or just the track for about $110. The items are separate, so they can also ship separately.
The deal itself is for the saw and rail, not batteries. Some buyers plan to use battery adapters or existing Makita/DeWalt batteries instead of buying into another battery system.
Milwaukee and Makita saws can use compatible third-party tracks, but Milwaukee and Makita tracks themselves cannot be mixed because the Milwaukee track is thicker. WEN, Festool, and Powertec tracks are also reported compatible with M18/Makita saws, while DeWalt tracks are not.
It can make dozens of cuts on a 6.0Ah HO battery, with one report of 70+ cuts on a 6Ah battery for 4-foot cuts in 1/2- or 3/4-inch plywood. A 3.0Ah HO battery also reportedly cuts without issue for smaller jobs.
It is much larger than an M18 circular saw, but it is a different tool that can nearly replace a table saw for some cuts. After using a corded version, one commenter would not go back to a saw guide clamp.

There are multiple 100"+ one-piece tracks out there, but they're not cheap - $250-300+. Makita has a 118", Milwaukee has a 106" one, but it's all relatively thin aluminum (Milwaukee being the thickest), it'll dent and deform in transit long before an 8ft wood board would. Shrink (damage/loss) can be pretty significant on long/thin items like this.
100"+ isn't exactly easy to transport/move around in use & around the shop, either.
Not really. I've cut through near 2" maple with my Makita without fuss, and I've seen the M18 demonstrated similarly.. but haven't used it to cut any thick hardwood yet. Modern brushless motors are intense.

I believe the WEN, Festool, and Powertec tracks are compatible with M18/Makita tracks saws too, though the anti-tip function might not work.
Dewalt tracks are definitely NOT compatible with the M18 or Makita track saws though.
