Even though I'm not in the market currently, I applaud this post.

Has Gourmia improved its grates to *actually* be easy to clean - bc my 6 year old or whatever it is now has never been easy to clean.

Just got one of these, mainly because I wanted a slightly larger basket, haven't even used it yet. But unfortunately, no, the bottom looks very similar to my 5 year old one, which is awful to clean. I usually use a paper liner on top of it, which works fine with most things, but I really wish the grate didn't need to be scrubbed after cooking most anything on it.

I agree with the baskets and grate issues…I've owned a couple of Gourmia air fryers and even if I baby the crisper tray it gets unruly with cleaning- eventually hard to scrub, chipping etc.

Good to know. Maybe I should just stay clear of Gourmia air fryers going forward. It also took forever to get rid of the burning plastic smell with the one I have now which I'm sure wasn't healthy.

I bought the Gourmia without a window that Costco sold last year and have been very happy with it. My oven is all but abandoned

I've given up trying to find one that is 100% pfas free. It's almost impossible to find one for a good price. I solved the problem by just placing a glass container inside the air fryer basket so my food won't be touching the surface of the air fryer basket.

Get the Ninja Foodi convection oven/air fryer. No plastic smell ever and it works great.

This is free of PFOA, PTFE and BPA, according to Gourmia: https://www.homepagenews.com/home...air-fryer/

we either use foil or a silicone basket, have NEVER cooked food directly in a basket

I haven't had a problem with any burning plastic smell, not with this one (only used it twice so far), or the old one. The hard to clean bottom grate is definitely frustrating, but I like the features and functionality of Gourmia air fryers enough that I'm willing to deal with that - they're cheap but easy to operate and cook great. Maybe next time I'll shop around for something better, but that won't be within the next few years, unless this one dies young.

Yeah, I usually use paper liners and sometimes foil. For things that produce a lot of liquid, like a bunch of wings, I use the grate though to allow them to drain instead of boiling. Maybe I can find or make a stainless steel grate that can be used in conjunction with a liner, which would make cleanup easier and still keep the food off the bottom.
