Word of advice, get a brightly colored silicone case off Amazon and these will stop disappearing into the couch every other day

One time I lost an nvidia shield remote into a bag of cheetos. I literally went insane looking for it in my living room. Was ready to cut up the couch. Went to have some cheetos and guess what was in there. Ugh

The pause and back buttons are intermittent on mine as well as the right click/ FF on the click pad. Hopefully these "like new" don't have the same issue.
The stupid DirecTV Stream app doesn't have a way to fast forward/rewind without continuously clicking the click pad.
I have four of these - two that get light use (kitchen, office), and two that get heavy use (living room, bedroom). All are more than two years old and none exhibit the problems you're seeing. I have good rubber cases on them all, although I don't remember any of them getting dropped.

Also, these appear on ebay all the time around this price point. This is not any sort of real bargain.

Fair warning for anyone who may not know: You can only pair a single Apple TV Remote at a time; so if you're looking to have two in an e.g. large room then you're out of luck.

OMG. Learn something new every day. I've been looking for a deal for about 2 years and wanted to get spouse a real Apple Remote as we sit apart. I never ever would have imagined that you could not pair a second remote. I don't get it.

You saved me $40 and a hassle.

I had similar issue with my Harmony remotes back in 2018. Bought a second non-touch screen remote, but NO, you can only pair one touch screen remote (like the Elite) and one non-touch screen (Companion or Smart Control) but not two of either. What?

Still use Harmony remotes in both rooms because the Apple Remote power button is not programmable and pitifully inadequate.

Can also use any other apple device to control the Apple TV as well (iOS, Mac OS, etc).

The remote app works well on iOS, but I don't know how to control an Apple TV through a Mac running MacOS. And using a good dedicated remote is a better experience while watching TV unless you are setting up passwords, searching, etc and need a keyboard. Then the iPhone comes out for sure.

Apple's Bluetooth audio stack is pretty quirky: across most of their platforms you effectively get only one active Bluetooth audio route at a time (one input and one output), so on Apple TV they only allow a single Siri Remote, likely because tvOS treats it as the one privileged Siri/mic device. Third-party Bluetooth headphones hit the same one-headset-at-a-time limit, with Apple's own AirPods/Beats having a first-party-only workaround via "Audio Sharing," which mirrors audio to two of their headsets but still is not true general multi-headphone support.

They could likely fix it in a software update, but this is a 17 year old iOS (and tvOS) limitation, and they haven't even acknowledged it as a problem; and actually used it as a competitive advantage for AirPods/Beats via Audio Sharing.

I have a GE universal remote from 2021 that works with apple tv 1st gen 2017. So just buy one of those for $10 I guess.

It is paired and the original apple remote is still paired as well.

This remote is perfect in my opinion. If you are still using the black touch remote with Apple TV, buy this now. It still supports the touch gestures on the d-pad circle area, but you can also click the buttons to allow for more precision.
The best part by far is the "scroll-wheel" scrubbing supported by the native Apple TV video ui. Basically, if you pause what you're watching and rest your thumb on the outer ring of the d-pad, the icon will change to a wheel and you can scroll around the d-pad, similar to the old scroll wheel iPod movement. It's great for scrubbing through a long movie where you don't quite know where you left off. Very precise but also can be scrolled super fast to skip far ahead.
No offense to anyone at all but I honestly do not understand how people lose this so easily. It's small, clearly, but like.. put it on a table or in any specific spot when you're done? It's like roughly half the size of an iPhone which I feel most people manage to keep track of. Obviously children or guests can do weird things but it's also fairly heavy for its size and, I dunno, we have two of these in two different rooms and we very very rarely actually lose them.

I absolutely hate how small these remotes are... with that being said I lost mine last month and i bought one. Thanks!
I got one of those oversized SNL-prop worthy remotes as a gag for $5, but my Apple TV remote went on the fritz so I programmed Biggie up to work with the Apple TV and... it's gone amazingly well!

It's not as nice as the real thing, but it works okay and, GET THIS, I've never lost it.

Knock on wood.

Guess I'll have to stop making fun of old people with giant remotes now.
