Are these markedly better than the original pros? Because I got a pair of those for free and I never use them.

I should clarify by what I mean as far as better:
Sound quality, and overall volume. Touch controls. And fit. The design of the first ones feel like they're gonna fall out of my ears.

Fit is significantly better than the original pros

Fit is significantly better (maybe not quite as rock-solid as others have led me to believe, but still quite good).
Everything else – sound-quality, ANC, transparency-mode – is marginally better. There's a new "adaptive" mode that's somewhere between transparency and ANC, which gives you slightly better awareness of your surroundings. The case also has a speaker in it, to help you locate it if it gets lost.
Had I not accidentally run my pair of previous-gen Pixel Buds Pros through the wash, I'd have happily used them for years more, and probably wouldn't have been particularly happy if I'd paid $160 to upgrade to these for no other reason. Great iterative improvement, but nothing to justify upgrading from the previous generation if they work well for you.
If you're upgrading from more than one generation back," it's a night-and-day difference, in the sense that these actually work reliably.
