It's not 100% useless; it's like 99% useless for Android users. The 1% is if you have a friend with an Apple device to help you even set this up. Then you can maybe hide it in your car in the off chance it gets stolen and you can tell the police you have an AirTag in it. If this is your use case, then you'd maybe want to go further and pry open the AirTag and disable the speaker so that a thief won't be able to easily locate the hidden AirTag.

Wouldn't your friend need to be in proximity of your airtag every 72 hours to prevent the Air Tag from beeping?

I didn't know that would happen.
Either way, if you disable the speakers, that wouldn't happen.
