Radpower expanded too quickly during Covid boom and couldn't sell off the excess China inventory. They were still selling outdated models at premium prices.

Other than frame and battery everything else on the bike can be replaced after market.

With that being said, if I'm buying a new US brand bike i would still want at least service and support. Rad is popular enough that bike shops will continue working on them, but expect to pay out of pocket.

There is a SD thread regarding this PayPal deal.

I recommend people take a look at this Wall Street Journal article however to see if the risk/reward is worthwhile for them.

A key point is that even if paid on time, some lenders might view payment installment plans as a negative when determining a potential loan.
Appreciate this. I ended up buying this without the installment plan earlier. Partly because I didn't want to deal with the cash back aspect, but mainly because I had forgotten I'd locked my credit 😂

This bike is better quality than any no name AliExpress bike. I'll roll the dice with this one
leaps and bounds better. it's battery also has protection features to prevent fires and has many UL certifications. it does struggle with uphill climbs. a very lightweight reviewer posted a video and the bike barely made 10mph on throttle only. if you are not light weight and have to carry groceries or going on a beer run, this might not make it up the hill.

Edit: Company might be going under. Parts might no longer be available. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP7zpOMVSFs

Rad Power bikes were sold and serviced in brick and mortar bike shops and stores. There must be fifty near me.

This deal proves the opposite of what you try to say or insinuate. This deal proves just what I have been saying in some of china bike deals. You can not count on parts, service and support even if you spend $10,000 at a B&M store. People paid high dolar at B&M stores for rad bikes and now will find they get no service or support form the manufacturer and will be in the same place as someone that bought a China bike of Aliexpress. Rad is not the only big name sold in B&M stores that is going away.

Most bike shops have a no returns policy and you may find that even if the shop might want to help the manufacturer can refuse to honor warranty, not sem able to fix a bad bike or not make parts readily available to you. Absolutely no one gives unlimited or assured and continuing service and support. You can see review after review from people that spent $5000-8000 on ebikes that are lemons and the manufacturer wants money to fix. You fall for marketing and as salesmen that make promises that are seldom or never fulfilled.

In fact you may fare better spending $500 on China ebike that has more readily had generic of the shelf parents and that could be can be replaced ten times before you get to bike shop prices

As to this deali it is great as you will get a bike with better components than a cheaper china bike and you will face no more risk than if you fall for a sales pitch and pay high but hidden commissions to behind the scenes sales teams at some bricks and mortar store near you.
Nice selective reading, bud. I said buy BICYCLE brands from local bike shops. Here are some bicycle brands for you since you're strugging here: Trek, Specialized, Gazelle, Giant, etc.

Nice try but a bicycle is a bicycle. The bicycle brand Rad Power is sold in B&M bike shops. I may be missing something but have no idea as to what you are talking about. If there is lack of clarity on is on you. Is there some corporate entity called 'BICYCLE BRANDS" or something? You drop a list of disparate brands as far as I can see and some of them are known for terrible service and dependability when bought in B&M store. Is the idea you express that people can only buy the brands you list to own a "bicycle"?

Trek is horrible brand and offers horrible service. They are cutting production of parts and components for existing bikes and have to calm people that they are not near going out of business.

Absolute junk!
Absolute junk!
Have an allant+ 8 and during my 2 years of usage:

Battery broken
Computer broken
Wheel Broken 2x
Wheel hub worn out 3x
Charger broken
Lots of other small issues (eg computer not charging anymore without warning, leaving you stranded even though the bike battery is fully charged)

The bike is also slow as hell, don't even hope to keep up with other speed Pedelecs.
I also found out the hub for example is a cheap 3-pawl Chinese part (15eur) and not a known brand with a ratchet.
Maintenance cost is also huuuge!! Chain and cassette are well maintained, but last on average 800-1300km before they need to be replaced.
Stay away from trek speed Pedelecs! Even the shop where I bought the bike is pulling is hair out because of quality issues with trek bikes (both speed Pedelecs and mountainbikes).
We see the same with Specialized

No Go. My Specialized eBike has left me stranded 3 times. Replacement parts not promptly available. Warranty not honored. Bike too fragile for trail.
My Specialized eBike has left me stranded 3 times in the past 90 days. The electrical system gets locked up and won't turn on. There are serious design/build flaws and obvious poor design engineering decisions on these bikes. Very fragile for a trail bike. The bike shop/dealer finds that the electrical control failed, but can not even get a delivery date from Specialized HQ for the needed repair parts, which are common to many Specialized models. Specialized will not honor my warranty. Poor electrical design, poor parts supply and poor warranty make a NO GO for me.
We see this with your recommendation of Giant.

No, Giant is not going out of business, but it is facing a temporary import ban on products made in Taiwan due to allegations of forced labor. US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detained shipments of bicycles, parts, and accessories from its Taiwan manufacturing facilities. This ban is impacting its ability to sell certain products in the US and will likely affect other brands that rely on Giant for manufacturing.
Import ban: The U.S. has banned imports from Giant's Taiwan factory over forced labor allegations, which include debt bondage, withholding wages, and abusive working conditions.
Contingency measures: Giant has stated it is taking measures to minimize the impact, including activating contingency plans to manage the delays.
Other manufacturing: Giant also has factories in China, Vietnam, and Europe, and the ban specifically targets the Taiwan facilities.
Company's response: The company has implemented a zero-recruitment fee policy for migrant workers and completed housing upgrades to address the issues and is working to resolve the situation and lift the ban.

Giant and Gazelle do better in reviews but if you dive down you will see many warranty coverage failures and B&M bike shops offering nothing but horrendous service even if you spent $10,000. I have an idea that if you are not able maintain and fix your own bike maybe it is to much for you.

You will pay 1/4th of the price over 4 payments, the first being immediately.A few minutes after purchase on Paypal can go to the Rewards section to see your pending rewards which will be 20% of the total in paypal rewards. You won't get those Paypal rewards to spend until weeks from now but you can rest easy because you will eventually get them.
I don't see PayPal pay in 4 as an option

This bike will be illegal in California with the new laws passed. You cannot have a Class 3 with a throttle.

Can you comment on if the rad power bikes use mostly standard generic components?I am not adverse to no support and got that with the three low end generic china bikes I have but would like to know if like they this bike has the fundamentals easily repaired or replaced without any of the basics being proprietary. If I spend $300- $400 on similar china generic ebike I end up in the same place anway.Looking at it that way it still can be a very good deal if overall quality and components are better. Who knows maybe there will be some china aftermarket batteries and controllers showing up. There are few companies that will rebuild battery packs.Really is spectacular price and those not adverse to self repair can maybe get a great deal.

Does not apply to this bike. The fear mongering is bit much. Check your facts before posting.

Anyone else still on the fence picking up the bike from the store due to the recent battery recall (not that this bike is on the list) and possible bankruptcy of the company as early as January 2026??

If they actually do go under, wouldn't the price be slashed even more on clearance?

Who's buying these from BB at $2k??? Seems an insane price to pay for a company about to be bankrupt.

The people fellow members scared away from the Aliexpress ebike deals.

All the deals are full of people telling others to go to a "safer', "with more support" US merchants. Many will be in for big surprise if they di not do their research.

Careful with all high end ebikes many are closing down shop or stopping production of lines and models.

Think this is is the slashed price and I not realy unreasonable. Components should be higher end than a gebric china bike and may be worth the extra cost. The big thing to be would to check that there are no proprietary component that would make repairs if they are gone impossible.

Many are buying, building, hacking and modding ebikes and not all need support. I was at the county fair and saw tractors ruining where the manufacturer has been out of business for 100 years.
