I'd get the RT-AX88U_PRO you can find for half this used on ebay.
there is nothing this 88E adds that apartment users will ever miss.

This router supports Merlin, which is nice. Same thing in Best Buy version is commonly $300-15%=$255 using the recycling offer and an old modem or router.

Of course, your ISP probably has some deal to give you a "free" router these days. Modem and router rental fees are becoming less common, it seems (still part of your monthly fee, but not itemized and avoidable as much as they used to be).

Have gone through many router including this. Settled on Gli.net Filnt 2. Amazing powerful but wifi 6 router just around $110. Range is superb, speeds are great and full support for openwrt.

There should be a openwrt 2 router coming in the next few quarters, so you may want to hold out for that. https://openwrt.org/voting/2025-0...penwrt-two

I really like AsusMerlin but installing tailscale onto that is a pain, and Openwrt supports that much better.

Wish flint had an SFP port. Some folks need an SFP port to run an ONT to bypass the crappy AT&T modem/router combo.

No idea why title specifies this as RT-88E, when it's widely known as the ASUS RT-BE88U.

When you click the link to view this product at Newegg, it's also listed as ASUS RT-BE88U.
