IMO
This should be about the price available regularly considering the competition

Additionally based on the fact that Denon/ Marantz sales are off over 25 percent year over year, per the reports, this makes sense

There are people of AVS forum reporting that they have bought this unit from smaller retailers for about $2k ish for a few months now

This has been a little lower but this is still a very good price for this unit!

Good luck finding a 13 channel unit that supports wides, 6 object based channels, all channels assignable, independent preamp mode, 4 independent sub outs, access to all 3 Dirac RCs, access to A1EVO for this price!

I got my 6800 a few days ago and set it up yesterday. I'm pretty happy with it but still need to add 2 middle ceiling speakers.
I haven't had that much time with it yet but I'm pretty impressed with A1 Evo Express. Wasn't too hard to do especially compared to the "non-express" stuff that seems much more involved/complicated and as far as I could tell it did make a noticeable difference over Audyssey XT32 especially with subwoofer output (I have two SVS SB-2000's).
What do you think of A1 Evo Express? If I bought a miniDSP UMIK-1 USB mic and did a more involved calibration with A1 Evo, would it make a noticeable difference? I've only ever done the typical Audyssey calibrations before so this is all new to me.
Can't see myself paying $799 for the Dirac ART bundle and then having to buy a microphone on top of that.

Jumped on this. It was time to upgrade my x7200wa which gave me great service over the last 10 years or so.

I saw this and was very tempted I recently picked up a 4800 and it's quite satisfied with it as I continue to add different levels of the room correction Dirac. I currently don't have the availability for more atmos speakers and would love to have that front wide as it has the Dts x pro and can unlock it appropriately
For now the room that I have it in can't flex that extra speakers at this time however in a couple years if I move and get a proper room hopefully I'm able to get one of these maybe secondhand and it will be a great upgrade

Just a word of caution from my experience, I currently have two broken/unrepairable Denon receivers in my garage. Both died around 25 months after purchase, miraculously right after the warranties expired. The most recent failed unit, the AVR-X4800H, lost the primary and secondary HDMI ports, while my AVR-X4400H lost all signal outputs.
I share this because apparently 99% of all receivers are no longer repairable nowadays, rendering any purchase a 100% loss once out of warranty, so do your research and don't spend a penny more than needed. A "high-end" or high-priced AVR unit is rarely needed imo, especially if you're connecting amps.
For this specific unit, I've seen it for around $2K off and on in different places. I personally wouldn't touch it now, or ever..

For context, my current configuration:
  • Speakers:
    • 2X Klipsch Reference RF-7 III
    • Klipsch RC-64 III Center
    • 6X- Klipsch PRO-180RPC In-Ceiling Speakers
      • 4 Overhead Atmos, 2 rear surrounds
    • 2X- Klipsch PRO-180RPW In-Wall Speakers
      • Surrounds
    • 2X SVS PB 16 Ultra
  • Amplifiers
    • Monolith 7x200
    • Monolith 2x200
    • Monolith 3x200

It's getting harder and harder to hold before actual "Cyber Monday" starts. Hopefully Denon official site brings it back again at that time.

My family and friends have a 1910, 4310, and four 4311s. Those are about 15-16 years old now and still in service. All but the 4310 and one 4311 have been replaced in the last few months to support 4K displays.

FYI, I believe the Japan made units like yours had a 3 year warranty so the failures should have been covered if they failed in 25 months.

The coupon code NOVE2521 works for AVR-X4800H as well. It comes out to $1449: $850 or 37% off. Unfortunately, the code does not work for AVR-X3800H.

Express is definitely the way to go for 98% of people.

The UMIK wouldn't add a benefit & the other iterations might squeeze out 1or 2% benefit.
As usual the techno/so-called experts over on AVS micro analysis everything to the Nth degree, making it more complicated than it needs to be!

A1 is a game changer vs Dirac.
Having several experiences with ART, in short, it only makes sense if ALL your speakers are reference.
I couldn't wait, I caved!

Did you use directional setting with your subs?
If not might want to give it a shot.
Works under the same theory as DLBC/ART.
If you do I suggest placing your subs on opposing walls.

I've had good luck with Denon receivers. Knock on wood. The 6800 I bought is made in Japan and has a 3-year warranty so at least there's that.

That would be something Denon can do, add wides or 6 object based speaker placements as an upgrade to the 4800 imo.
I would have paid extra for the 4800 over the 3800 for those.
There is very little difference as is.
