There's a $20 off $100 for new users if you order from Brother. You just need to trigger the pop up offer (I added the machine and waited for the pop up on mobile).

I've been wanting to get a sewing machine to learn. I was gonna get the wirecutter choice, which is a brother cs7000x. Admittedly, I don't know a lot about the machines - not sure if this would be worth considering instead. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Facebook Yardsale. Should be able to find a nice older Kenmore or Singer for much less.

i'm far from a pro myself, but i'd say it's generally a good rule of thumb to start with a less expensive model and then buy the more expensive machine if you think you used the cheaper one enough and want the extra features down the road.
I got a brother XM2701 on sale 6 years ago (my first machine that i learned from) and it's still working fine today. I mostly use the machine to tailor clothes to be slimmer fitting/repair tears and it works more than well enough for that. For that purpose, you'll only need like 2-3 stitch patterns, not the dozens that most machines come with.
This ST371HD machine says that it's meant for thicker fabrics, which does come in handy; i.e. for multiple layers of denim. or in my case, I recently wrapped a fabric around a bookbag strap that was fraying; the machine made quite a bit of noise going through like 4 layers of fabric plus a thin foam padding. It worked, but I could hear the machine struggling, as it was not meant for that purpose.
The wider table on cs7000x is nice though, but that seems it's meant more for quilting and seeing the patterns.

I went thu 3 sewing machines before ended up going with an industrial Juki for $250 used on FB marketplace. It is a dream to sew on compared to the other ones with its auto thread trimmer, always down needle, auto lockstitch. Can probably find them easily in the $400-600 range. If you don't know what you want though then there is nothing wrong with starting with these. You might not even enjoy sewing and stop at your first machine.

How long did you have to wait? No pup up offers triggered after ~15 mins of adding it to the cart and having the cart open. Thanks!

My wife asked for a sewing machine for Christmas. She likes to buy fabric kits from Joann's and make some clothes for herself but is always frustrated with her past machines being broken or something. Is this a good entry level and reliable machine?

Not sure this is still in play. I am at cart and all I get is a circle that keeps rotating. I can't apply the code or check out.

The one person on this thread who seems to know what they are talking about. Get you an old metal vintage machine - Kenmores or Singers are the way. They are the tanks of the sewing machine world and SO MUCH EASIER to learn on. I started with a newer plastic machine and was so frustrated so fast. I really enjoy it with the old metal ones. Plus, Brothers are bottom of the barrel these days.
