I got the Z50 II refurb + 2 kit lenses some time ago and I think the upgrades are worth the extra money, including the auto focus and being able to use an external PD battery via the usb c port.

I'm doing the same and waiting for a deal on the Z50 II. Looks like a solid upgrade over the Z50.

So right now the 50ii is like 935 for a two lens kit. Nearly double the cost. Think mint will go cheaper?

Any casual photographers care to weigh in on a reason to jump on this, versus a used/refurb Sony a6000 16-50 kit? About a wash as far as cost goes though I would say a kit in good shape with extra batteries would be right here at the 500$ mark. I have a Ricoh GRIIIx that I use as my grab and go but would be nice to have something I feel less guarded carrying around and this sounds like it would tick a lot of boxes. I know the A6000 is older but anyone have real world experience with the two (or better yet 3!) to compare rather than me just relying on AI to summarize the differences for me? I'd actually like the subjective opinion of someone who's used them rather than a technical side by side which would likely point me to the Nikon.

It will definitely get cheaper, it's pretty new. The refurb Z6III is down to $1500 this week.
I personally wouldn't buy any crop Z body, there's few Nikon lenses for it and the full frame bodies are small enough I'd just get one of those. If you want a wildlife camera just get a D7500 for $550 and the 70-300 AFP VR for $280, both refurb.

I get you. I shoot mostly with an old 5000d. Have a bunch of F mount lenses. My photos aren't they bad as far as quality and such. I know there could be lots of improvements mechanically speaking with a new body and full frame. My son has showed a bunch of interest in photography lately and was thinking of getting him one of these compact / light weight rigs for in the go shooting. Maybe even using it to video some of his wrestling and water polo matches. .

I just don't think Nikon Z is a good choice if you're on a budget. The whole point of buying Nikon Z is access to their incredible, and incredibly expensive, lenses. If you're not going to be spending thousands on lenses I think you will get more for your money from Sony, Olympus etc.

Or get Nikon DSLR, those are great on a budget right now, although lens prices have gone up a lot, at least on official Nikon refurbs.

Z lens are cheap compared to canon and Sony, plus there's an adapter than allows Sony FE lenses on Nikon Z bodies that works great. I had 2 Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 lenses, one Z and one FE and they performed the same on a Z8. Plus you can adapted canon EF.

Yeah, I don't know anything about Sony or Canon but not surprised. I see often the same lens is cheaper on Nikon than Sony, like the Tamron 150-500 is $1200 on Nikon Z and $1400 on Sony, wtf?

Maybe Olympus is a good option for a budget? I used a rental Olympus u4/3 camera for a night macro bug hunt and it was amazing. Built in focus stacking!

Ok so it's not just me that noticed the price differences for practically the same lens
